Ride of silence held in central Texas

May 17, 2007 By: Rick Ankrum Category: News, Ride

from kcen-tv

It’s dangerous enough on streets and highways, but bicyclists have to be extra careful.

Thousands of cyclists took to the road Wednesday night all over the world and in central Texas to call attention to bike safety.

For several families the ride of silence in Temple means so much. Wednesday night’s ride was about raising awareness of the need for more safety while sharing the road with cyclists. One Temple resident at the event Wednesday night has a good reason why he wasn’t riding, but following behind in a car.

Club wants to make motorists aware of cyclists

May 17, 2007 By: Rick Ankrum Category: News, Ride

The Huntsville Cycling Club (Texas) supports the Ride of Silence as reported in the Huntsville Item:

Robert Logston slid a list across his desk, filled with names of people that had recently been killed in “bicycle/motorist accidents.

The list was eight pages long, and 24 of the cyclists listed were Texas residents.

“That’s just a fraction of them, the ride captain for the Huntsville Cycling Club said. “These are just the ones that were brought to our attention.

On Wednesday, in memorial of those lost due to that type of accident, the HCC took part in an international event known as the “Ride of Silence.
