Aside from the issues of safety and the ongoing bike lane wars there’s another reason that riding your bike in the city sucks: it makes your lungs black.

A new study in London found that bicycle commuters had 2.3 times as much black carbon in their lungs as those who get to work on foot. What does that mean? Well, cyclists breathe harder so…

Tonight is the season kickoff of The Peddler Dirt Derby now entering its 5th season of dirty fun. The weekly Tuesday night affair offers a lighted course for short course mountain biking and cyclocross at the Del Valle Motorcross. The guys at the Derby are kicking it off in style with a Ladies Night for the opener: all ladies and…

During a routine check-up in March, her doctor found a lump that she had not felt herself through self-examinations and immediately scheduled a biopsy.

When the lump was removed, doctors realized the severity of the lump as Zeboski was diagnosed with invasive ductal incarcinoma, which could have spread if it had not been caught in the early stages.

At least twice a week, Jorge Guerrero straps on a helmet and hits the roads on his bicycle.

Guerrero, 26, of McAllen, is a cyclist who shares the road with vehicles. He uses bike lanes on the street to get where he needs to go.
But sharing the road isn’t always an easy feat for area cyclists.

“(Drivers are) pretty aggressive,” Guerrero said. “I’ve had several incidents…

In the weeks leading up to the Conquer the Coast cycling race, a colleague regularly stopped by my desk to convince me to sign up for the 65-mile ride around Corpus Christi Bay.

He didn’t succeed. I had settled on doing the companion 25-mile race along Ocean Drive. This was my first cycling race, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I didn’t want to overestimate my ability. …

*I know I said I went mountain biking and technically that’s what it’s called but we don’t have a single mountain in this part of Texas. We might have an ant hill, but that’s about it. But still, some of the trails around here are …

With this gorgeous weather, it seems prudent to provide another update on the progress of the local bike trail system. There’s good news on most fronts, with two significant links almost completed and two more under way.

Both the Heritage East trail from San Jacinto to McKee north of downtown and the new bayou crossing into Herman Brown Park north of I-10 and east of the East Loop will be open by the end of the year, says Dan Raine, the city’s bicycle and pedestrian coordinator. …
