Lubbock, TX
This ride will specifically help fund the drugs Fenretinide and Safingol. The protocol involving the combination of these two drugs has shown great promise in attacking cancer cells without harm to normal cells. One hundred percent of the money donated is tax deductible and will go toward the cost of manufacturing these drugs. For more information regarding this research, how the monies are used, or to see your donation at work (tour of the lab), please contact CCF at 806-445-0555.

There will be a 10, 30, and 50 mile ride. For the little ones riding tricycles, training wheels, etc., there will be a block ride.

The Registration fee is a $50 tax deductible donation with a challenge to raise at least $50 more for a total minimum of $100 per participant.

Registration for a child participating in the block ride is a $10 donation and they must be accompanied by an adult who has either registered as a rider, a sponsor or a party animal. Please be aware that we will not be able to provide childcare and the adult must take responsibility for the child.

The rides will begin at 8:00 a.m., and all festivities will conclude at approximately 2:00 p.m. Check -in will start at 7:00 a.m.

The ride will begin and conclude at the CCF offices. After the ride, there will be a celebratory luncheon/picnic. Wicked Beaver Brewery and Hop of Texas have graciously donated the liquid carbs for those over 21. For those under 21, there will be plenty of soft drinks, juice, and water. In addition, there will be live music and good food worthy of any cyclist.

The CCF staff and volunteers will staff all rest stops, take care of all logistics, provide food/drink, etc.

Routes are being designed and will be posted online soon.

After a little trouble getting through customs due to a misplaced packing slip, my team’s kits arrived for us to pick up yesterday. So, I left work about 30 minutes early to head over to Sunshine Cycle Shop to pick mine up. I’m very pleased that we are using the same design this year, but I was a little disappointed with one mix up.

First for the good news. These kits got a bit of attention…

Steve: I’m an old guy who’s been riding bikes forever. I work in a bike shop, ride a LOT, lead a goodly number of rides, and love all things bicycle. View my complete profile … That first ride in Texas was both a joy and a disappointment. The joy came from once again being aboard my old friend. The disappointment came from… Well I was in terrible shape, and I didn’t know my way around. It was a short ride. I vowed to fix both of those things soon. I did start riding. …

The USA Cycling championship cyclocross races for the State of Texas and the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference will take place at the Lone Star Cyclocross Festival, January 16 and 17, 2010. Racers from across Texas, as well as Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Ohio and North Carolina have already signed up for two days of furious racing action at Travis County East Metro Park. Races are being co-hosted by the University of Texas, Mellow Johnny’s Bike Shop, and Pirate Race Productions, founders of Austin’s notorious Dirt Derby. …

On Tuesday, Southeast Texas natives Joe Haeggquist, Tom Simon, Charlie Dixon, Eric Laing, Richard James and Britt Gober will begin pedaling their bicycles across the country from San Diego to Washington, D.C.

The group plans to traverse the 3,300 miles in 33 days – 100 miles a day – to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation, which focuses on cancer awareness. They plan to stop in 34 cities.

Along the way, they’ll be sporting helmets with a Beaumont logo, and the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau provided them with T-shirts to hand out at each stop.

She just finished with a long bicycle trek, but not just for exercise…to help those suffering from cancer.

It started over two weeks ago in Prince, Utah and ended at Vidor High School with a lap around the track.”
