The City’s Public Service Board has given (with fees of close to $1,000) El Paso mountain bikers a lease for a proposed parking lot on the access road to the water tanks at the main entrance to the Redd Rd. trails. This parking lot will hold approximately 25 cars and include one paved handicapped space. The BMBA has plans for signage in the area including a large map and information station to be placed behind the water tank. This project…

The Wildfire Blues Festival and Bike Ride will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Arches on Market Street.

“We are trying to let people know that Baird is not just antiques anymore. We have a lot of other stores around there now,” said organizer Landell Pugh. …

I decided to join The Friends Of The White Rock Creek Trail and help them with their trail clean up efforts this morning. Unfortunately, I got a late start and didn’t make it to the kick-off at 8:00 am. On the way there I did see a few people already on the trail, picking up trash.
I have been working on the bike shop directory page. I filled in many blanks and sadly I have deleted a few shops that no longer appear to be in business. I suspect they might have been victims of the economic recession over the last several years. I will be working on this more now that I have a little more time. Check the list out and let me know of any corrections or additions. I am down through the Houston shops.

I snapped a few photos while riding DORBA’s Johnson Branch trail last weekend. It’s just north of Lake Ray Roberts, and it’s got about 9 miles of singletrack loop. It’s mostly not too hard, except for the red loop, but there are some tight tree gates and loose rocks. I’ve seen deer here before, but I spied a bobcat last weekend! …

Back in the park I found the paved scenic trail fun, but serious two-wheeled thrill-seekers will want to try out the eleven miles of track that volunteers from the Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association built in the park. Steep and rocky, these trails are…

Meet at 6:00 pm on the southern bridge on Technology Loop in TAMUs Research Park. A clear headlight, red taillight and a helmet are required equipment for participation in this ride. However, no fancy bike needed. More info…

Dec 24, 2010 (Kilgore News Herald – McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) — ‘Twas two weeks before Christmas in 2008. Not a creature was stirring in the Nicks’ house — except for mom falling through the attic floor.

What started out as a late night excursion to hide her son’s new bike quickly became a hilarious story that Kilgore resident Barbarara Nicks could not keep to herself. In fact, Nick’s story is now available in bookstores across the nation in the new “Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas Magic” edition. …

Rocky Hill Ranch 9:00 a.m.
Mark your calendars for December 11th & 12th as Rocky Hill Ranch and the Austin Ridge Riders are planning a weekend of fun, and an opportunity to share our love for the trail. There won’t be any snow or sleigh rides but there will be happy groups of mountain bikers swishing along the sweet singletrack under the Loblolly pines. And while we won’t be roasting chestnuts over an open fire, you can warm yourself up with some hot chili and cornbread. …

Date: Saturday, December 18, 2010 9:00 am
Type of Ride: Club Event – Fort Worth Bicycling Association
Location: Weatherford, TX
Sponsor: Jerry Franks
The distance options are 42 or 65. The 42 mile route goes to Clark Gardens and the 65 mile route reaches the recreated 1850′s village in Palo Pinto and may offer Clark Gardens as well. Clark Gardens cost $7.00 and I’m told is beautiful in December. The “Old Jail Museum” folks will open the village in Palo Pinto just for us, so I recommend we all make a small donation. If you don’t have time or desire to tour, you’re welcome to ride only. Meet at the TXDOT parking lot at 1423 W. Bankhead in Weatherford. Take I-20 to Weatherford Exit 406 then turn right/north on S. Bowie to Highway 180. Then left to first light and left to TXDOT on the right.

Here it comes again, and this year its extra special as the Super Bowl is being held right here in the metroplex. We haven’t even gotten to the playoffs yet and, yes, we’re already planning for this fun day out. One thing this ride will not do – is disappoint you. The ride starts at the same location and ride leaders you’ve come to know – and as always, twice the fun. Last year was a cold and…

The obesity epidemic will peak when 42% of the U.S. is obese, as opposed to the 34% previously expected. As we all know, obesity not only is a dangerous health condition, but it also takes a serious toll…
