Houston is a suboptimal city for cycling. It sprawls and sprawls and sprawls, and the sprawl is not always connected with bike lanes or even roads with a clearly marked shoulder. It does have people that care about cycling, and try to create, grow, and maintain infrastructure for cyclists, but it’s a work in progress. I learned a bit about the work in progress on Sunday when I rode through Houston’s Energy Corridor. …

by Keith
Less than two days before we leave for Texas Hell Week and needless to say I am like a 6 year old going to Disneyland. The bike is ready with a new chain, new tires and GPS. The bad part is that is it is still powered by the fat old guy …

by JORGE MERLE
Ended the 2009 season raining and started the 2010 season raining. after a 60 mile ride yesterday i got up this morning a little sore and tired, still have some soreness in my back from couple weeks ago when i hurt my back at work , stretch some and waited for jimmy at my house , about 8:30 am we load the bike in the car and headed to denton for the bicycle plus crit . yeah on the way there , guess what ,raining all the way there . we got there , pin the numbers…

Over all, the 85 mile ride felt pretty much like yesterday’s 59 mile ride…although I don’t know how many more miles I could have gone after that 85th mile. After a night in Conroe’s Best Western, we’re off to Brenham, Texas which is …

by brendanpleonard
What a great couple of days in Texas. I got to ride my unencumbered bike all around Austin with my pal Russell. I replaced a bunch of parts that needed fixing after 1500 miles. I got the 1985 Raleigh Team USA worked on by a great guy …

Brendan Leonard’s story is an archetype that Bicycling readers know well: It’s the tale of a young man whose life was changed by a bike. But there’s a twist to Leonard’s arc as a rider that’s a bit unusual—and worth hearing. Like a number of the Biketown participants we’ve profiled over the years, Leonard took the strength he discovered in the saddle and turned his bike into a tool for the greater good. He didn’t just get fit, or crank up his wattage, or learn to tear…

Saturday morning at 10:00 am we left the Super S store in Junction and headed for Roosevelt. Roosevelt is 19.5 miles from Junction. For a first ever week-end ride, I was very pleased with the turnout. We had a nice lunch at the mercantile store in Roosevelt before heading back. The mercantile store was very interesting. They handle…

While recovering from my knee problem, I have been cycling vicariously by reading others’ ride reports. But I had to do something biking-related, so I got out today and did a little bike maintenance. The day was overcast and misty, …

Holy cow, we’re only a little over a mile into the ride and we’re on this death mountain and people are already pulling over to the side, getting off of their bikes and walking up. WE’RE STILL WITHIN THE FIRST 2 MILES OF THE RIDE PEOPLE …
