Pace Group
The HH 100 Pace Group is the first of it’s kind – a pace group dedicated to breaking 5 hours for the 100 mile Endurance Ride. We will ride a controlled pace that gives you the best chance of breaking the coveted 5-hour mark. To help you in your quest, you will have a premier starting spot at the front of the grid, support motor cycles, and a team of experienced coaches and racers leading the way.

Pace Group participants will receive a special edition jersey and professional level support throughout the ride. Training Plans, Merchandise, and Training Events are also available to Pace Group participants. Please see www.athletesontrack.com for more details as they become available.

Please note that this is not a “no drop” ride. We will coach, we will cajole and coerce, but ultimately it will be your responsibility to keep up. Before signing up for the group, you should have completed at least 1 100 mile ride, and have a reasonable expectation of meeting the 5 hour goal.

Biking already can make one not smell so nice now there could be bicycle helmets that add to your aroma (actually this only happens if your helmet is damaged).

We’re glad you’re using a bike helmet (and we’re glad you’ve opted for that really scary one we first saw in 2007). You do realize, however, that the more blows to the head you receive, the less effective the headgear is, right? Researchers at Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute have developed a manufacturing process that injects microcapsules containing malodorous oils into the helmet…

Greg Hall got into bike racing 25 years ago as a way to lose weight. He stuck with it because he loves Austin’s cycling community.

‘It’s the team aspect of it,’ says Hall, 51, who works as a programmer for the Austin Water Utility. ‘I have so many friends through the sport.’

Now a Cat 3 intermediate racer, Hall still rides with the team that he started with, Violet Crown Sports Association. He rides an Austin-made Crumpton cycle that weighs just 16 pounds. …

It’s spring time, and there’s no better way to experience Austin than by bike. I have teamed up with Keith Byrd from Social Cycling ATX to put together the Discover the City on Two Wheels Spring Urban Living Ride series in April to highlight the insane fun you can have on a bike in this city, and we are asking for your help to make this a reality. The three well organized events…

San Diego to New York unassisted cycle in aid of the British Heart Foundation – Sponsor Us Now – www.justgiving.com/sandiego-to-nyc-cycle
Well as planned, today has been nice and easy. Due to the the distances between towns, we could either have done 25 miles or best part of 100, so we opted to do just 25, taking today almost as a rest day.

We set off late, about 11am, as we knew it would take us 2 hours at the most. The first 2 miles or so involved cycling through some very shifty looking neighbourhoods, and it looked a bit like ‘dog territory’. We cycled very slowly as dogs seem to take a dislike to fast moving things, however it didn’t take long for one to briefly chase us. Fortunately it only seemed intent on protecting it’s owners property and lost interest after about 10-20 meters when it realised that in fact we weren’t there to rob the house. …

Day 32: Navasota, Texas, to Coldspring, Texas. March 8, 2010 · 1 Comment. I walked into the Shell convenience store at the east end of Navasota, Texas, this morning to hear Tony saying to the clerk, “Did you just say ‘Chuck Norris’s ranch’? ” Oh yeah, she said. Ranger Walker? Yeah, his ranch is just over the bridge on 90, and you’ll see the sign that says “Lone Wolf Ranch.” I said, oh yeah, like Lone Wolf McQuade. …

Recently, I was given the great opportunity to have an interview with Erik and J from HandleBar Mustache. On twitter, they are known as @hbstache. PedalHouston had been introduced to them by Lynn of Voices of Survivors. These guys are also strong supporters of cancer-based charities. One thing for sure is that they appreciate quality and it is not only represented in their designs but in their materials as well. It is great to see biking influenced designs so it’s time to jump on it!

PedalHouston: What exactly does the phrase “Handlebar Mustache” mean to you guys?
J: I’m not exactly sure what it means right now…

The weather outside may have been cold and stormy, but the reception from the cycling community to Austin Police Department Chief Art Acevedo was warm at last night’s forum at One Texas Center. The forum was a follow-up on last year’s meeting with the Chief, the first of its kind in Austin, and was sponsored by the Austin Cycling Association, Bicycle Advisory Council, Bike Texas, League of Bicycling Voters, and Austin Yellow Bike Project. The forum began with pre-selected questions from a panel chosen by the sponsors…

Inspiration
Comes in all forms, and this past weekend it came from lots of incredible folks cycling the hills of Montgomery County here near Houston Texas! I have been doing Weight Watchers since January and have lost just under 8lbs. I know any loss is a good loss but I had hoped to be losing more quicker, but patience is the key! I volunteered for the Continental Airlines 7th Annual Cycling Classic…

On Saturday (3/6/2010), I was itching to ride a 50 miler. I thought of riding to WRL and doing a couple of rounds around the lake, and heading back home. This might have given me the mileage I was desiring but I decided to go some place I haven’t been in a while and it was a great decision. I rode to Roanoke, Texas and back – roughly 53 miles. This is the route I used!…

Spring has come to Central Texas! It was 78°F (25.5°C) and sunny today, a great day for a bike ride. I saw two members of my club head out on theirs just as I was leaving for yet another trip to the doctor. Oh, well. …

The addition of Mellow Johnny’s bicycle shop, automobile manufacturer Subaru and bicycle maker Gary Fisher reflects a commitment by the team’s management company, Redbud Sports, LLC, to build on the momentum from 2009, when the team won 50 races. …

A movement to offer bicyclists more protections through “safe passing” laws could be gaining traction in Denton.

City Council member Dalton Gregory, fresh from a transportation conference in Austin, addressed the council’s mobility committee Tuesday on ways to make Denton more bicycle-friendly, including possibly enacting a “safe passing” ordinance based on one adopted in San Antonio this month. …

…My itinerary takes me from Tampa to Lafayette, LA. the first day, then to Amarillo Texas the next. Third day arrival is in Sedona, where I plan on camping somewhere along Oak Creek Canyon. I am thinking of CAVE SPRINGS campground.

Sedona is a good place to start riding, since the lower elevations will help me acclimate for some of the other riding. Bell Rock Pathway is a good warmup ride, and I may try out some of the other trails out toward Flagstaff as well. I plan on being in Sedona for 3 days. …

Supporters of Fort Worth’s new bike plan packed city council chambers last night. (Photo: Kevin Buchanan)
[A]fter a huge turnout of support from local bike riders, including the newly formed Bike Friendly Fort Worth, the Fort Worth city council unanimously approved the radical new Bike Fort Worth bicycle transportation plan. This plan will, among other things, massively increase Fort Worth’s bike infrastructure from its current state of just over 100 miles (emphasis on recreational trails) to nearly 1,000 miles (the vast majority of which will be on-street bike lanes and sharrow routes). Big, big news for Fort Worth’s livable streets movement. After the vote, the entire council chamber erupted in a standing ovation. …

Last night was a history-making night for Fort Worth’s transformation into a more livable, sustainable city.
At last night’s Fort Worth City Council meeting, a mass of bicyclists turned out in support of the Bike Fort Worth plan, which the council would be voting on adopting and implementing. Groups from the newly formed Bike Friendly Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Bicycling Association, and the LMRA Bicycle Club joined individual supporters to express their enthusiasm over the proposal. …

Cold and rain and wind on the way for the next two days prompted a run around today. It seemed reasonable to hit a bicycle shop in Corpus and loop on down to Mustang Island and back to Rockport. The Truck had not been out for a run in forever so it was ready to stretch its running gear some. The rest of the wiring and house cleaning can be done while it is raining tomorrow. Good enough excuse for me anyway. …

It was really cloudy and only 38 degrees when I got up this morning. There was a lot of rain last night during a couple of hours of thunderstorms, but it was so windy that everything was dry this morning. They offered a small breakfast selection at the motel, but it was enough to get me going.

I followed US Route 190 for a good part of the day. There wasn’t much traffic on it, mostly logging trucks. The shoulder was wide and pretty smooth. The wind blew between 10-20 miles an hour from the north as I was generally headed west or southwest. …

A one mile stretch of Nueces Street will be transformed into a safe haven for bicyclists under this new plan, but drivers will have a harder time navigating the changes. Cars outnumber bikes on Nueces Street in downtown Austin now, but the City of Austin is trying to reverse that trend with Austin’s first bicycle boulevard. Saturday morning some of our group did a grueling bicycle ride. Fortunately some friends invited me to go to Alpine for the annual Artwalk festival. Activities included art galleries, crafts, food, a silent auction and music. …

Ken Dille, an old friend from my Greater Dallas Bicyclists and Texas Bicycle Coalition days, made the mistake of riding in a bike lane in Austin (as required by law) and came away somewhat the worse. This is the typical “right hook” …

This last week our editors had a chance to ride the roads of Austin Texas as part of an organized group ride presented by the Austin Cycling Association (ACA). Austin has quickly become known as the hip part of Texas where it is actually okay to lean slightly to the left. The city displays this liberal slant by creating, signing, and maintaining usable bike lanes and pedestrian walkways. …

Okay, I’ve been bicycling to work and for errands for nearly six straight years, only driving when the weather was too foul, and I’ve been biking for a lot longer than that. In that time, I’ve come perilously close to being taken out on Dallas streets by inattentive, arrogant, and/or senile drivers more often than I’d care to admit to the Czarina. …

So we’ve got three races coming up this weekend in Dallas. That is about the only good reason I can think of to head more than a few miles east of I-35.

Friday night Bryan Fawley (aka – Fort Worth CX Race Weekend Dominator) has an event at the usually TNX location. Heard it is good but never been there. Read all about the flyover in the txbra.org cx forums section. Even have some video links if you want a visual. …
