Season’s Greetings! Are you hoping for some cycling goodies in your stocking later this month? I know a few members who received new bikes earlier in the year. They must have been on their best behavior in 2011. Since I wasn’t, I’ll settle for some socks and a new pair of sunglasses.

Tomorrow, we have the Bullis County Park ride and Sunday’s ride is in Castroville. Unfortunately, there is rain in the forecast for both days. Please…

American modern dancer and choreographer Martha Graham describes the process of creating art as “… a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive.”

This statement makes me ponder how bicycling riding and art meet at a cross path. The recent East Austin Studio Tour is a perfect illustration of art and bicycles meeting. I’m proud to call east Austin home, and the…

A couple of years ago, we opened up the BFR Suggestion Box. This is a place where the Richardson bike community can voice their opinions and suggestions for other Richardson cyclists. It’s been a while since our last posting, so I thought we should share another.

Fellow bike enthusiast, Nick F., sent us a great email sharing his innovative lighting solutions on a budget. He also asks what other folks do for lighting solutions during the darker days of winter. We thought it would be great…

Christmas gifts are a great way to encourage a healthy fitness lifestyle.

There are only 22 shopping days left, so it’s time for Santa to start finding the perfect gifts for the athletes among your family and friends.

In the “Under $25 stocking stuffer” category, you have a ton of options. For cyclists, you might think about a Blackburn mini-pump ($25-$30), an Innovations Proflate CO2 inflater ($18-$25) or possibly some cool-weather shoe covers such as the Castelli Belgian Booties ($22). …

Hear “San Antonio”, and two things usually come to mind: Riverwalk and Alamo. True, they are the top two tourist attractions in Texas, but to really experience San Antonio, get on a bike, and explore…

If you happen to travel to San Antonio without your bike, no worries. There are multiple options for the wheel-less rider. This year, the Alamo City inaugurated B-cycle (http://sanantonio.bcycle.com/) , a bike rental system. Automated kiosks are located at popular tourist attractions throughout the central city. If you’re not a member of B-cycle, simply swipe a credit card, purchase a 24 hour membership for $10 (7 day [$24] and annual [$60] memberships can be purchased online), select your bike, and the dock will unlock your ride. A quick seat…

AUSTIN, TX (BRAIN)—It’s not unusual that retired BMX rider Taj Mihelich launched a new bicycle company. But what is of note is that Fairdale isn’t a BMX company, selling instead road/commuter bikes.

“I always wanted to do commuter bikes,” Mihelich said.

What forced Mihelich’s hand was a debilitating back injury that not only ended his BMX career a few years back, but also ended his BMX riding days in general. “It just made sense that I would sell bikes that I could ride,” he said. …

We participated in Bike to City Hall day this morning. Individuals rode in from different parts of Dallas, and groups of people rode in with organzied (and safer) rides with Bike Friendly Oak Cliff and Bike Friendly Knox Henderson. Union Station was the meeting point.

Once we gathered at Union Station, we all went as a big group at 8:00 am to the front of City Hall for a press conference of sorts where Mayor Rawlings, Council members Delia Jasso and Scott Griggs, and Max the “Bike Czar” (great unofficial title!) discussed the continuing efforts to implement the recently approved Bike plan. All…

Last Sunday’s Síclovía, the mass ride that brought 15,000 people to bicycle, skateboard, and jog down a four-mile stretch of Broadway for four hours while autos were rerouted, was the first SA edition of the international ciclovía movement (Spanish for “bike path”), a fresh-air party celebrating fitness through human-powered transportation. Riding bicycles is like trying on masks at the Spirit of Halloween Store. I have a serious case of bike lust, and to satiate my bike lust I have a semi-permanent collection of bicycles to peruse and try on to suit my daily whims. A fixie for the days when I wanna feel hip around town, a thick wheeled mountain bike when I wanna rub elbows with the dirt, a cargo bike that can transport up…

Soldier Ride is a Wounded Warrior Project initiative that provides rehabilitative cycling opportunities across the country to help wounded warriors restore their physical and emotional well-being. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for the public to participate in a cycling event that honors the men and women of our military who sacrificed so much. Soldier Ride offers the public a chance to ride alongside as our warriors promote their positive message of recovery. The event raises funds for WWP programs and initiatives that ensure this generation of wounded warriors is the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded warriors in our nation’s history.

The men and women of the United States armed forces have responded with courage and resolve to the needs of our country. This is your opportunity to give while cycling alongside them!
