Houston will be enriched with the second CounterCrawl culture and art bike crawl this Saturday.

UH students, local artists, musicians and creative culture pioneers have put together a biking route that takes people through non-profit urban farms, art car graveyards in a defunct grain silo and a secret bike-only stop that promises intrigue and satisfaction.

The Facebook page for Countercrawl will bring up a black and white ad with a bicycle and the name of the event.

Dubbed Destination: Leakey, our weekend kicks off Friday, October 21 and covers up to 175 miles of riding over three days on some of Central Texas’s most scenic and peaceful roads. We’re not talking training camp here, so this is a chance to maybe put the racing season behind you, get back to regular riding after a long, hot Summer, or tune-up for the…

The freshly resurfaced Jagoe St block between Oak and Scripture reopened with new sharrows, bike signs, and a widened sidewalk. City engineer Noreen Housewright explained that road was narrowed to fit a 5’ sidewalk while keeping parking on both sides, and sharrows and “Bikes May Use Full Lane” signs were added. Sharrows encourage riding outside of the car door zone, riding the right direction, and they signal to cars that “bikes belong…

Letting my brain rest. I did mix in a little bit of running and weight lifting, but at a drastically reduced volume from what I was doing. It has been great. For a second year cyclists took the challenge of the 225-mile Texas Forts Tour. In three days they traversed six counties, passed at least three early forts and met welcoming citizens along the way.
The bike tour is not a race, but a fun ride for all types of cyclists. Those like Mineral Wells residents Iris Stagner and Neal Reddick – both racers – burned up the road. Stagner rolled into the Mineral Wells…
