Riding at night can be a daunting and dangerous task; many biking commuters are faced with the issue of being obscured when riding on the streets. Visibility at night is a vital component of biker safety, hence the need for reflectors and attachable lights. However, some of these devices are not always effective especially from the side. …

The Collins Street Bridge is a popular way for cyclists to cross Central Expressway, partly because it has a relatively low amount of auto traffic compared to Spring Valley, Belt Line, Arapaho, Campbell, and Renner (Richardson Traffic Count Map). However, it is not perfect. The biggest problem is that many motorists tend to drive well above the speed limit when crossing the bridge and, as with other roads that cross Central…

The Scoop
Be Safe Be Bright is a statewide bike light giveaway organized by BikeTexas, and people like you!

Through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School program, BikeTexas is purchasing a massive quantity of LED lights to distribute to over 40,000 Texas school children.

The lights quickly attach to any bike without tools or hardware. We are using this opportunity to purchase extra lights for adults and teenagers around the state who can’t afford lights. …

Today is the first day of the Police Unity Tour bicycle ride and I have to say that the Texas Wheels of Justice group has represented well.

The day began with an 0500 wakeup (which equates to 0300 Mountain Time back home). I was up until 0130 prepping everything, repacking, and sending email and Facebook updates. Time well spent but it was hard to roll out of my warm bed this morning! We rolled out on the ride at 0700-ish. …

The 3,160-mile trip that began April 19 has already taken Fenn and Harrision through the Arizona desert, over the mountains of New Mexico and into Texas. …

Great news for the North Texas Mountian Bike Patrol and Groundworks Dallas.

The North Texas Mountain Bike Patrol and Groundwork Dallas have been in discussion regarding a partnership for a common cause; supporting and building more trails in and around Dallas, TX. Both groups will benefit greatly from this arrangement. Our mutual cooperation will serve a catalyst for each group to achieve our mutual goal of creating the best urban trail systems in Texas and quite possibly the United States. Please give your time and effort to support this cause.

There’s a lot of honking going on at the busy intersection of Barton Springs and South Lamar in South Austin and it has nothing to do with the traffic there.
The parking lot of Jack and Adam’s Bicycles on the northeast corner of that intersection is where members of Texas 4000 are having a marathon fundraiser where…

Jack took 3rd place for the series, he only made 3 or 4 of the races in the series but scored enough points to hold onto 3rd place. …

The Solavaca Cat Claw Classic – near Glen Rose, TX
April 24 – 25
After kicking around lots of names for our fist annual TMBRA Championship Series XC Race in the Spring, we came up with ‘Solavaca Cat Claw Classic’. Since we have a lot of that devilish plant, the cat claw, on our ranch, and since we named a whole section after it, and since we kept the cat theme for the hardest climb on the trail, then we liked the idea of carrying that onto the big TMBRA race. We are making big plans for that weekend and we expect to get tremendous support from the Glen Rose/Granbury community. The Steering Committe has already been working hard on ideas and plans. Here’s the names of the guys on the committee. Adam Eyres, Andy Lawler, Chris Purser, Barney Benner, Leonard Nucholls, Larry Colvin, and me, Mack Hargrave.

This Texas mountain bike trail is located in the limestone hills of the Paluxy River watershed. Just down the road is the Dinosaur Valley State Park. Solavaca is a privately owned ranch with an ideal topography for a mountain bike trail – a large scenic variety of rocky hills and flats, all covered with cedar, oak, pecan, elm, mesquite, cottonwood, and many other native Texas trees. A seasonal creek runs across the property from south to north. This clear water creek is dominate in several of the more technical parts of the trail. The 8+ miles of single-track trail – all marked ORANGE – plus 3 miles of dirt road provide choices to satisfy all levels of riders. The owner rides and has built the trails to share. There are some sections that require a more advanced level of skill. Rock strewn descents, climbing switchbacks, steep dropoffs, roots, logs, a rock garden, just to name a few. Some of these have “go-arounds” marked with WHITE arrows, so that the beginners and intermediates can avoid the more technical sections.
