Most of you have probably heard about the Uberhood from Bikesnob NYC, who made pretty nasty comments about the ‘hood, and by extension it’s users. Here in Plano we are a more more friendly and accommodating to folks, and we give them a chance before we make broad negative assumptions about a group of people.

I was very excited when I received my ‘hood in the mail, because it is the first of several products I’ll be giving the old PC gorilla test to over the next couple of months. …

I have so many photos that I’m splitting them into three galleries: Dealey Plaza, Turner House and then Bishop Arts; in the same order we rode. The lighting was kind of weird at Dealey Plaza because we were either in the full sun, or mostly shade. Not ideal but oh well.

The weather could not have been more perfect. I’m guessing there was a couple of hundred people there, and I…

Some might consider Lance Armstrong to be Austin’s claim to fame as far as cycling is concerned, but when it comes to extreme bike racing, let’s just say that Armstrong hasn’t ever wolfed down a boiled octopus in 21st Street Co-op’s infamously brutal MF 100.

“I think Lance Armstrong would tank in this race,” said Will Wolfe, a geology senior and an organizer of the MF 100 bike race. “He probably doesn’t have the stomach for it, honestly. Or the technical abilities. This course is basically just a perilous…

For a few minutes, Sandy Springs resident John Manser rode alongside the world’s most well-known cancer survivor and cyclist, seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong in Austin, Texas.

It was both cycling and the battle against cancer that led Manser, a cyclist for more than 20 years, and friend Kelly Wiggins to Austin for the Ride for the Roses Oct. 14 through 16.

“We were jacked up about it,” Manser said of getting some one-on-one time with Armstrong. “It was one of the most amazing…

Press Release
Award-Winning Bike Shop To Be First Downtown Since Departure of Cromer’s Ace Decades Ago
FORT WORTH – Trinity Bicycles announced today that it will move its business to a 1550 square foot space at 343 Throckmorton Street in Sundance Square.

“ This is a tremendous opportunity for us to move our business to the heart of downtown Fort Worth, Sundance Square,” Trinity Bicycles owner Bernie Scheffler said. “As Fort Worth’s premier shop for bicycle commuters, a downtown location is an ideal fit for us.”

Trinity Bicycles has made a name for itself as one of the few shops in Texas promoting bicycle transportation through education and advocacy, but it sells more than just commuting bikes. Trinity sells and repairs all types of bikes, from high-end competition machines, to daily commuters, to various styles of comfortable bikes perfect for enjoying Fort Worth’s Trinity River Trail system or just cruising the neighborhood.

FORT WORTH, TX (BRAIN)—Trinity Bicycles will move to a new space in Sundance Square, a 35-block retail, residential, entertainment and cultural district in downtown Fort Worth, Texas.

The new 1,550-square-foot location should be open in mid-January 2012, with a grand opening targeted for March, said Trinity Bicycles owner Bernie Scheffler. Trinity’s current home is 2,100 square feet, but due to unusable space there, the business will have the same retail and service footprint at the new location—plus…

Even if you’re fully decked out in reflective coating, riding a bike at night can be a dangerous thing, which is why Instructable user NEIN decided to rig up a simple system to add blinking turn signals to his bicycle.

It’s a bit of a process to outfit the bike, but it’s an inexpensive fix considering you’ll end up with a safe means of transport. Using commercially available parts, NEIN hooked…

When I get on a cargo bike with my children, I think about what effect bicycle transport will have on their future. Will they break the American wealth draining cycle of car ownership? Will they be better prepared for peak oil? I don’t know, but I do know riding with them is a supremely more enjoyable, relationship building experience than sitting in a car.

On Saturday, we rode our Xtracycle to the Tour de Fat for the opening bike parade ride. Coming in near Halloween, it is always a costumed affair and my kids love to see what people wear. This year, my son Miles…

by Gil Jones Musings of Captain Justice
I think that I’ve now had enough pain which, according to some is necessary in order to write a funny book. The plan was hatched months ago when ace cycling-buddy and former high school classmate Don Bynum started laying out routes for a Century Ride. I didn’t pay much attention to the notion at first. I should have.

The Plan
Eventually the route from the West side of Lake Buchanan to Junction, Texas was determined and within a matter of days the plan was laid. Thursday saw copious quantities of water quaffed, chasing a spaghetti dinner. Friday saw electrolyte pills, more water and lasagna disappear down the hatch. Several large salads laced with green leafy vegetables mysteriously disappeared. My weight went from 188.2 to 190 by Saturday morning. All…

Chasing daylight. It is a favorite pastime of mine — during a morning ride as the sun begins to lift off the horizon or an evening jog as the rays settle down to let night in.

But now that fall is in full swing and winter is waiting in the wings, the temperatures are quickly dropping and the days are getting shorter. I guess it’s time to bid our glorious summer weather au revoir and bring those workouts indoors.

For many exercise junkies, taking the sweatfests indoors to a gym during the colder months can be challenging — at best, unappealing. Perhaps the lack of scenery (besides occasional eye candy) and a…

Early in the year, I built up my trip to the North American Handbuilt Bicycle show in Austin, but never really wrote anything about it; mostly because when I finished my time at the show I had a sad family errand to run and the show was kind of pushed out of my mind. However, I ended up finding my pictures the other day, and I…

More than 300 mountain bike racers are expected for the Bent Wheel Bash Saturday and Sunday at Buck Creek Trails.

The races on Sunday are a part of the Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association Fall Series.

“It’s not an easy course at all,” said race director Gary Fraser. “I’ve raced all over the state and this is as good a course as any.”

Racers can still sign up Saturday or Sunday. Racing is divided by skill level and age for men and women. The course is 8.5 miles, plus a starting loop. In the top category, …

It must be fall finally! I awoke to positively cold morning temps and the Tour de Fat is rolling into town. The celebration of the bike produced by Fat Tire Beer will occur in Austin again for the 5th time this Saturday, October 23 at their usually stomping grounds, Fiesta Gardens. All beer sales will directly benefit Yellow Bike…

Here’s a quick run down of recommended events for the coming week from our comprehensive calendar of all cycling events. Thanks to Jason at ATXBS for letting us know about some events we couldn’t find elsewhere. As always, if there is an event you know about that’s not on our calendar contact us, and we’ll add your event on and possibly add it to the weekly round up. …

Late in the race, USA Cycling’s Southwest Regional Development Camp Manager David Wenger (Austin, Texas/ Super Squadra) made a move to the front of the peloton.
