from Mike’s Bike Blog
The Dillo has a special place in my heart, it was my first century ride and each year the family gets out for the Kids & Family ride (2009 report). It’s a great value for $15 the entire family rides and gets the t-shirts and goodie bags. The only downside is that it’s in Bertram, which is a little further than the regular start of Liberty Hill. This year it was going to be only Jack & Ethan accompanying me, Zeb had a soccer game so Jennifer would take him to his game while we rode. …

Divorce, breakups, problems at work … when it comes right down to it, these athletes experience life the same as anyone else.
… Ginny King of Dallas works out with a cycling coach six to seven days a week.

Ginny King, 42, of Dallas grew up with two sisters in an active family that took part in water sports, snowmobiling, ballet and off-road motorcycling. “My mom and dad always had us involved in physical activity to try to keep us out of trouble,” she says. …

There’s still some spots open on the Bicycle Tour of Lake Jackson where we’ll visit and have tours of Sea Center Texas, ride on the Spc Monica Brown Trail at AA McLean Park, the Abner Jackson Plantation Site, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory …

Since we created the Real Ale Ride it has always been our intention to support the community of Blanco, the host city for the Real Ale Ride. From day one the people of Blanco have rallied in support of this event and have been a joy for us to work with, providing cash sponsorships, discounts on logistical needs and sponsoring or volunteering at our rest stops. With the help of riders like you we have made donations to the Blanco Library project totaling $9,000 from the proceeds of the previous two year’s rides. …

Drivers in New Braunfels now will have to start giving a wider berth to bicycles and other “vulnerable road users” who share the local streets.
The New Braunfels City Council passed an ordinance Monday to protect pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, the handicapped and even people on horseback — requiring that cars and trucks pass them with added care. …

In addition, I ride to church on Sundays where I teach a men’s discipleship class. I also participate in some long bike rallies, like the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred mile ride in Wichita Falls, Texas each August. …

Been working hard the last couple of days so I’m gonna take a ride this morning on Park Road 1A and 1C on a beautiful scenic up and down road between Bastrop and Buescher State Parks… then back on the road to Marble Falls! …

Transportation officials who hosted a town hall meeting Wednesday night saw the largest crowd since they began hosting such events over the past two years.

More than 100 men and women showed up at the McNease Convention Center to chat one on one with city and state transportation authorities. Those with questions — which involved everything from resurfacing roads for bicyclists to how funds are dispersed — were able to make their queries from a podium in front of the panel or by e-mailing them through the TxDOT Web page, where the meeting was streamed live. …
