For most folks coming from San Antonio or Austin it&#8217;s about a 2 hour drive. I am blessed in that I live up towards Kerrville, so it&#8217;s barely an hour for me. Either way, it&#8217;s still worth the drive.<br \/>\nI Spent the first hour on the doubletrack in the front that borders the river. Nothing to technical or steep at all&#8230;pretty benign actually, but man it&#8217;s fun to haul ass on this section. The back country is tougher, with a few fairly steep climbs and descents. I didn&#8217;t find the ride &#8220;technical&#8221;, and I am a total newbie&#8230;.but a few of the climbs were pretty stout. Scenery is gorgeous&#8230;.place is freakin&#8217; HUGE, and even better&#8230;.NOBODY was there. I saw not one other&#8230;<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forums.mtbr.com\/attachments\/texas\/747253d1356231588-another-south-llano-post-llanopark0002.jpg?resize=700%2C525\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p>############################################################<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/alchemyrider.me\/2012\/12\/19\/no-chip-seal-here\/\" href=\"http:\/\/alchemyrider.me\/2012\/12\/19\/no-chip-seal-here\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>No Chip Seal Here<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nby alchemyrider\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0alchemyrider.me<br \/>\nI bought my first bike in Houston.\u00c2\u00a0 My early solo rides were on the few bike trails along the Columbia Tap to Trail and Brays Bayou.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I met the Six Thirty group.\u00c2\u00a0 The majority of our group riding was done on city streets.\u00c2\u00a0 In most cases there were no bike lanes.\u00c2\u00a0 Where there were bike lanes you tended to stay out of them.\u00c2\u00a0 I remember Washington Avenue having a bike lane in name only.\u00c2\u00a0 What had been designated as a bike lane was badly rutted filled and with debris.\u00c2\u00a0 So we took our chances toward the center of the lane.<\/p>\n<p>We also rode on the farm-to-market roads outside Houston.\u00c2\u00a0 There was less traffic on them, which was a plus.\u00c2\u00a0 They tended to be chip sealed, which was a minus.\u00c2\u00a0 Chip seal has a layer of aggregate embedded in the bitumen or asphalt.\u00c2\u00a0 On that surface we were&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>############################################################<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"http:\/\/www.hcbtc.com\/blog\/event\/new-years-day-family-ride\/\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hcbtc.com\/blog\/event\/new-years-day-family-ride\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>New Year\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Day Family Ride<\/strong><\/span><\/a><br \/>\nHill Country Bicycle Touring Club<br \/>\nIngram Road Park and Ride<br \/>\nJanuary 1, 2013 10:00 am<br \/>\nLet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s start out 2013 with a leisurely bike ride (or go as fast as you can safely), with plenty of time to sleep into the New Year. The ride will start at 10 a.m. from the Ingram Park Via bus station (410 &amp; Ingram Rd.).\u00c2\u00a0 This ride on the the Leon Creek Trails Trail-head to its end at the Valero Trailhead (at IH 10) is approximately 24 miles in length with shorter route options. The trails are mostly flat with a few small rolling hills. Bring the family, kiddy trailer &amp; tandems.
