I considered stopping at one of the local restaurants but, let&#8217;s face it, who has ever known me to pass up breakfast at Subway?<br \/>\nIt has been a gorgeous day for riding, and this morning was no exception: blue skies, mid-60s and almost no wind at all. Making good time my first stop was at the Honey Island General Store, where I spoke with the proprietor, Chuck Turner. He told me that he sees cyclists come by his store all year long, and from all over the world. He told me of one gentlemen who&#8217;d visited this past year who was riding a bamboo recumbent from the very southern tip of South America to Alaska (and, let me tell you, that was a humbling bit of knowledge!). He also proceeded to tell me that JUST YESTERDAY a couple from Vermont had stopped.<br \/>\nI missed fellow travelers?? And they were traveling the opposite way no less (and thus far more likely I&#8217;d run into &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/bikehouston.org\/2017\/01\/03\/george-bush-trail-closure-suggested-detour-options\/\">George Bush Trail Closure \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Suggested Detour Options<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>BikeHouston | bikehouston.org<\/h3>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/bikehouston.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Energy-Corridor-Trail-Closure.png?resize=1135%2C739&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"1135\" height=\"739\" \/><br \/>\nGeorge Bush Park, Noble Trail the main north-south trail in the park, is officially closed and may stay closed till 2019. The bridge in the middle is complete. We are working with the City of Houston and Harris County to come up with alternatives and asking if this long closure is necessary.
