For many of those busy volunteers, they&#8217;re focused getting rest stops ready.<br \/>\nWhether a rider needs to repair a bike, seek medical attention they need a quick snack, rest stops are on the map to keep cyclists up on their bikes and moving toward the finish line.<br \/>\nA day before the big ride, rest stop volunteers are on their toes getting their spots ready to roll. &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.timesrecordnews.com\/story\/life\/community\/2017\/08\/23\/bicycling-sometimes-has-natural-distractions\/593942001\/\">Bicycling sometimes has natural distractions<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>Lynn Seman | www.timesrecordnews.com<\/h3>\n<p>This is my 10th year to ride in the Hotter&#8217;N Hell bicycle race. This amazing event is an experience like no other.<br \/>\nBecause I suffer from what I call \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Nature Distraction Disorder,&#8221; there is no way that I could complete the legendary 100-mile route. Nature distracts me; I could never stay focused long enough to make Hell\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Gate by the cut-off time. (Note: For the 100-mile route, you must meet certain speed requirements.) Instead, I slow down to look at the &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ricethresher.org\/article\/2017\/08\/bikefriendlyuniversity\">Rice applies to be first Texas Bike Friendly University<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>Jaecey Parham | www.ricethresher.org<\/h3>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/s3.amazonaws.com\/media.rce\/2150_this_onef.JPG?resize=1200%2C800&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" \/><br \/>\nRice University\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Transportation Demand Management department submitted an application on Aug. 6 for Rice\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s designation as a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bicycle Friendly University,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d following a years-long effort to improve biking at Rice.<br \/>\nThe League of American Bicyclists will announce new designations this fall. Now in its 36th year, the event routinely draws around 15,000 riders.
