The temperature made it to 64 degrees and the sun was still up but fading over the horizon. The spongy part came about on the return when I noticed my front tire was losing air. I did make it home before all of the air was lost. I thought it was a puncture of some kind but when I inspected the tube I could not find one. Resorting to the water test I found the leak in the metal Presta stem where the threads begin below where the cap seats when you tighten it down. I have never had a tube fail in this manner.
