The city had a similar requirement \u2014 to register bikes with the city \u2014 on the books until 2008 when it was repealed. If we are going to invest $53 million in hike and bike trails, it makes sense for some of the funding to come from the community that will benefit.<\/p>\n<p>When I was a kid back in a small midwestern town, it was a rite of passage to take your bike down to the fire station and get a license. It also helped develop a sense of responsibility and provided an opportunity for safety instruction. At the time, renting was supposed to be a temporary measure.
