Bicyclist fatally struck by car while attempting to cross the street in west Houston, police say<\/a><\/h2>\n

A driver fatally struck a bicyclist late Monday night in west Houston, according to authorities.<\/p>\n

Officers responded around 10:15 p.m. to the 6100 block of Westheimer Road near Greenridge Drive and found the man in the roadway and the driver still at the scene, HPD Sgt. David Rose said. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The rider, later identified as 47-year-old Sajid Barajas, was pedaling along South Cesar Chavez Boulevard near Polk Street around 2:15 a.m. when the driver of a Nissan Altima struck him from behind at a "high rate of speed," according to the Houston Police Department.
