About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Wintertime ride freezes riders’ fannies but warms hearts

By Jimmy Isaac | www.news-journal.com

It’s not the annual Freeze your Fanny race without cold weather. So when the starter’s horn sounded Saturday under a wind chill in the 30s, organizers knew the race’s 30th consecutive year had the appropriate weather.

As volunteer Jason Barton put it, “Welcome to Freeze your Fanny.”

At least 350 cyclists from at least three states rolled out of …

Bicycle ride will benefit group that offers services to area people with disabilities

by Ashley Gardner | www.texarkanagazette.com

Texarkana Resources for the Disabled is having its sixth annual Ark-La-Tex Challenge slated to take place at 9 a.m. April 7. The bicycle ride begins and ends at Liberty-Eylau High School.

There are a variety of distances offered. The Ark-La-Tex Challenge is a 70-mile ride that takes cyclists through the country roads of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana.

“The biggest draw for our rally is probably the unique aspect that you get to ride through three states in one ride and the wonderful cause you get to support,” said Jennifer Lewis, Texarkana Resources for the Disabled executive director. …

Matthew Baggarly suffered a massive heart attack – then he went on a cross-country bicycle ride

Brandon Messick | kdminer.com

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Florida man has traveled America’s highways and byways, always accompanied by the whir of tires on asphalt, the wind against his face, and the road that stretched onward into the horizon before him.

Those roads brought Matthew Baggarly to Lake Havasu City on Friday for an overnight stay.

Baggarly knows today that he’ll reach the end of his journey eventually, but the end once seemed much closer. …

… On Baggarly’s first attempt, almost four years ago, he was hit by a freight truck outside of Dallas. Baggarly spent the next several months afterward in recovery, during which time he began to blog about his experiences, and he began to write what he describes as his first novel. According to Baggarly, he was neither broken nor beaten by the …

Overcast with Light Rain Indoor Bike Workout

Texbiker.net Posted on February 3, 2018 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 3, 2018

The weather man knew what he was talking about today. After watching two bike races from Spain and France this morning I switched to basketball. The University of Cincinnati versus UConn in Hartford, CT with UC winning number 14 in a row. I stayed inside and rode the Cycleops Fluid trainer after those events. It is my birthday but I am not willing to go for a ride and brave the chill and rain.

Yesterday I did intervals on the trainer and today it was what I call endurance. After warming up I tried to maintain the same cadence/speed for 7 miles without stopping though I did make a quick stop while I was warming up to turn the fan on. This amount to pedaling until my legs felt so heavy the weight turned the pedals. Nothing fancy just keep the pedals turning. The gearing didn’t change once I warmed up: 36 x 15.

Sunday the overcast sky is supposed to leave and the temperature go up to 69 degrees. If this happens I will ride on the road.

Dallas bike share company will pick up knocked over bikes

By: FOX4News.com Staff | www.fox4news.com

One Dallas bike share company says it will start helping its rivals and citizens by picking up knocked over bikes.

It’s one thing when the bikes are neatly aligned, but it can be unnerving when they block ramps for wheelchairs and strollers. It can be downright dangerous for people who are blind.

“If we don’t expect it to be there, we’re in trouble, we could trip up and fall,” said Blake Lindsay, Dallas …

Back the Blue Bake Sale to benefit Texas Peace Officers Memorial Ride

By Deanna Kirk | www.corsicanadailysun.com

Most of us remember where we were on Thanksgiving day when we received the news of Trooper Damon Allen.

While people enjoyed the remnants of their Thanksgiving dinner, Allen was ambushed, shot and killed while doing a traffic stop on the highway that day. He never returned home to his wife and children.

Transforming Elysian

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day a group of determined Northside citizens, BikeHouston, and Avenue CDC got together and built a 500-foot bike lane. Tape, chalk, brooms, shovels, and safety vests lay in a disheveled pile in the grass after, somehow, we completed building our vision of a safer street. We laid plywood over the potholes, created a “bulb out” to further separate cars from bicyclists and pedestrians, and removed all the parking from the street …
