About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Ice Outdoors, Hot Workout Indoors on Bike

Texbiker.net Posted on January 16, 2018 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 16, 2018

No thoughts about biking outside today. When I checked the temperature after getting up this morning it was 30 degrees. By the time I started the workout it dropped to 28 degrees. Here are a couple of photos from outside our home.

1-16-2018 Back door ice
1-16-2018 Front yard ice

Glad to report today’s workout went without any sensor problems. I powered up the Elemnt, PowerPod and the speed and cadence sensors came to life as I turned the cranks. Today’s workout was steady pedaling after warming up. The oscillating fan helped to keep me cool though I waited until 3 miles into the workout to turn it on.

More cold weather Wednesday. Another indoor workout on the Cycleops Fluid Trainer.

APD is doing this because a bullet grazed Miles’ neck last month when he was walking outside …

Adventurers Explore Both Sides of Border in 1,200-mile Journey Along the Rio Grande

by KATHY BLACKWELL | www.texasmonthly.com

Over three installments, we follow a film team as they—by bike, horse, and canoe—document how a physical wall would affect the area, water, and its people.

In December, a team of five, including Texans and immigrants, embarked on a monthslong journey from El Paso to the Gulf of Mexico along the U.S.-Mexico border and the Rio Grande using different modes of transportation: mountain bikes, horses, and canoes. Their purpose? To document the borderlands before further construction of a …

Nice tactical urbanism in the #NearNorthside by @HOU_DOTr. My hope is one day that exercises like these would be encouraged and make way for long term changes to our streets and neighborhoods. https://t.co/FVTpRhNTKx

Thank Goodness for Backup Sensor Indoor Bike Workout

Texbiker.net Posted on January 15, 2018 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 15, 2018

I probably could’ve went outside to ride today but after hassling with the Wahoo Speed sensor battery I wasn’t in the mood. Before starting the fluid trainer workout today i checked the battery on the speed sensor. It was dead after only one workout. I started to put another battery in but stopped when I remembered I still have the Garmin ANT+ speed sensor that the Wahoo one replaced. When I picked up the Garmin and shook it a few times the little green LED started flashing which surprised me after almost a year of no use. I started the Elemnt computer to pair it with the Garmin but it wouldn’t connect. I thought replacing the battery might fix it and it did. With the new battery the Garmin paired with the Elemnt in a few seconds. Now I was ready to start the workout!!

Outdoors it was 64 degrees when I started the workout and by the time I finished almost an hour later it was up to 66. But this won’t last long with another cold front likely to arrive early Tuesday morning. There might be some warming by Saturday which means I might actually get to put some rubber on the road instead of the trainer. I hope to ride the Bike Through The Forest & The Hills – Coldspring, TX. But the weather might not pan out.

With the cold and/or wet weather my bike activity has been indoors. So far I have biked 91.64 miles according to my SportTracks dashboard.
