This morning as I drove from Conroe to the Grangerland area I spotted a small boy at FM 3083 and FM 2090. Several bicycles were lined up along the property and a scooter. At first I felt sorry for him thinking he was selling his bicycles to get a someone else something for Christmas. I made a u-turn and went back with intentions of just …

Donovan Clay, 16, was more than surprised Thursday when he walked out of the shower to see a new bike by the Christmas tree in his apartment.
“We’ve helped you get to school,†said Steve Shannon of Waste Connections. Employees bought and built bikes for about 200 kids around Austin, including Donovan.
Jayden Griffin, 5, checks out his new bike, which he built through the program, Earn-A-Bike.
For months, Jayden Griffin had waited for this moment.
He had attended classes. Studied every part of a bike. Learned how to ride safely. And on a rainy Saturday morning, he finally built his bike, a sweet blue-and-black ride with training wheels.
It is his first bike, and he handled it with care, peering over and under the handlebars, studying the rims and pedals from curious angles. Finally, he sat down, and cautiously …
When looking for a new bike, the confused Santa will ask the shop assistant for brands such as Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen or at least Rudolph.
Then he’ll consider buying a fat bike.
He’ll save himself the trouble of explaining to the police why he travels with a herd of deer in heavy traffic.

An older bike messenger with Tourette syndrome and autism walked into a bar.
No joke. Really, no joke.
The incident is included in a proposed decision issued this month by state Administrative Law Judge Rebecca S. Smith in a case involving officialdom’s challenge of the renewal of an alcoholic beverage license held by Bottom Bracket Social Club.
The San Antonio bar, opened in 2013, has had some travails but seems to have found a niche in the world of selling alcoholic beverages and providing entertainment for profit. …
Struggling parents are getting a big gift under the tree this holiday season thanks to several local organizations.
For dozens of Coastal Bend children, Christmas came early, but it wasn’t Santa bringing the good cheer. For eight years now, Bay Area Bicycles has partnered with local radio stations and volunteer groups to give wheels to youngsters who might not otherwise have a bicycle. …

HARLINGEN — Many kids would love a new bike for Christmas.

Oh, right, I’m so offended by all those terrible bike-share bikes showing up around town, polluting the landscape by their unaesthetic presence. No, I’m not. You know what does offend me? Cars. Trucks. Last time I checked, bikes weren’t giving kids leukemia. …

Join us this Sat. 12/23 for a fun ride. Winter is all about base miles.
Two days before Christmas and it is 80 degrees but definitely warm enough for a bike ride. Rolling out at 11:21 AM under an overcast sky the wind was stiff. I found out at the end of the bike ride why it felt that way: 12 mph from the south with 28 mph gusts. Not much of an issue riding north on the “Kingwood-Community Drive-Valley Ranch” route but the stretch back to the south at the Community Drive u-turn was tough. I rode my Blue Norcross AL bike some variety which rode nice and smooth with the wider tires but the extra weight became apparent pedaling into the wind. I had a chance to rest some while I rode west from Loop 494 on Community Drive to I-69/US59 with traffic backed up about 1/2 mile from the traffic light. It moved slowly but once I got to the incline up to the traffic light I rode on the shoulder to the light where I waited for it to change. When it changed I rode slowly waiting for an opening to move to the left to make the turn south on the service road. The car behind me was kind enough to let me over and make the turn.
Riding downhill from the Grand Parkway intersection should have been easy but the headwind made me pedal. Traffic was more than usual on the road before I turned into Valley Ranch at the Texaco station, probably due to the holiday. I was surprised to see the New Caney ISD schools were still in session and letting out in Valley Ranch and later in Briar Tree as I rode by. Humble ISD schools closed after last Friday classes.
While biking through Woodridge Forest early in the ride I stopped to take this two photo to show the wind blowing strong.
The cold front is on the way and at the time I finished the ride (1:24 PM) it was around Navasota. From the 80 degree temperature during the bike ride it will drop into the 40’s on Saturday. No more biking until after Christmas I suspect.
