About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tired of those gnarly Barton Creek trails? Try biking at Slaughter Creek Preserve instead

by Pam LeBlanc | fitness.blog.austin360.com

I’ve missed my mountain bike. It’s stayed in the shed too often lately, even if it is so I can spend quality time with my new canoe and get my running legs back.

Last Day of Fall Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 20, 2017 by Rick AnkrumDecember 20, 2017

After a foggy day yesterday the weather turned great for a bike ride today. I left at 12:03 PM on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route and rode 32 miles. It was a clear sky, 74 degrees with a light 7 mph breeze from the SW. I dressed lighter than Monday’s ride wearing shorts, long sleeve jersey and a short sleeve jersey. It was just right as the temperature warmed up to 77 by the time I finished at 2:22 PM. The sun offset the slight coolness in the shade and as I produced body heat I felt comfortable.

No rest stop in Huffman so it was a continuous ride except for stop signs and traffic lights. I don’t know if it the holiday season or not but several cars and pickups waved me through even though it was their turn.

Close to the end of the ride I stopped at Creekwood Middle School in Kingwood and took these photos to show how great it looked outside. From the look who would guess that winter arrives tomorrow around 11 AM.

At the Close of Dallas’ Year of the Bike Share, LimeBike Shares Some Numbers

Stephen Young | www.dallasobserver.com

Bikes, first silver and mustard, then orange, green and yellow, swarmed downtown Dallas this summer before spreading out. The basics are all the same: Bikes cost $1 per hour to ride, payable via a smartphone app. After a rider pays, a hefty security device unlocks, freeing the bike’s back wheel so the rider can pedal off to wherever he or she might wish. The dollars go to one of four companies — VBikes, with silver and mustard rigs; Spin, which has bikes with orange frames; LimeBike, which has lime bikes; and Ofo, with yellow stock. …

Lubbock physicians: Wearing helmets prevent bike-related head injuries

By ELLYSA HARRIS | lubbockonline.com

If you give a child a bike, medical professionals say he or she should wear a helmet when riding.

“From my perspective, accidents happen on bikes,” said Dr. Richard Lampe, chairman of pediatrics at the Texas Tech’s Health Sciences Center. “Bikes for children and adults are excellent for exercise, but they need to be ridden safely.”

A properly fitted bike helmet can provide a safety net against injury to the …
