About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

First Bike Ride in a Week

Texbiker.net Posted on December 18, 2017 by Rick AnkrumDecember 18, 2017

It has been a week since my last bike ride mostly because of the weather. It is overcast today but I was optimistic that I could ride so I set off at 12:28 PM on my Blue Norcross AL bike. With the overcast sky I decided to stay close to home and rode the Kingwood streets for a total of 12.8 miles. This was enough for me to reach and pass my year’s goal of 7,430 miles and hit 7,437 miles. I am at 137 miles for December which is 13 miles short of my first goal.

I thought I would ride farther but it started to rain lightly while I was in Woodridge Forest and after that it was off and on. during the last couple of miles the rain picked up some but not enough to get me really wet.

The temperature was 68 during the ride with a NE wind at 6 mph. I overdressed with shorts, leg warmers, long sleeve thermal jersey and windbreaker jacket. Around 3 or 4 miles into the ride I got warm and opened the zippers on the jacket and jersey some. While I probably didn’t need the leg warmers I was glad I had them on when the rain fell and they kept me dry.

Finishing the ride at 1:26 PM was sooner than I planned but with the possible rain I figured to play it safe.

The next few days will be warm but rain is in the forecast so I might get to ride. Winter arrives in a few days but the days will start getting longer daylight; more bike riding time.

Go Inside Dallas’ New Cycling Plans As Bike Share Companies Flood the Streets

BY RANI MONSON | www.dmagazine.com

A rush of rental bikes and the ensuing backlash against ‘urban litter’ have again raised the question of whether this city can handle two-wheeled lifestyle choices.

They’re everywhere. And bright. They’re maybe not the color you’d pick for your own, but that’s the whole point of these bike-share rentals in Dallas. They stick out on streets and sidewalks like highlighted text, perhaps imploring the city to improve its biking infrastructure through sheer critical mass—or …
