About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Sunday Streets steps onto one of Houston’s most diverse neighborhoods

By Dug Begley | www.chron.com

Volunteers with BikeHouston create a temporary protected bike lane along Bellaire near Renwick during Houston Sunday Streets on Sunday.

Sunday was the first time Tim Nguyen said he felt totally safe making his weekly trip to the grocery store. It’s because he had a lot of company, when Houston Sunday Streets rolled out in Gulfton.
“This is just great,” Nguyen said as he looked at the scene of cyclists and stroller-pushers along Bellaire near Hillcroft. “All these people. It’s not like this (normally).”
The event, held about …

Travis County Parks Annual Pass Cost Increase

cxagent | www.bikemojo.com

A Travis County Park Manager asked this be passed along. I consider it nice and helpful that the Park Managers try to let us know ahead of time. Consider yourself informed.

Could you help us spread the word that the prices for Annual Permits to Travis County Parks, like Reimers Ranch and Pace Bend, will be increasing on January 1?

The new prices are the following:

Annual Permit for Resident of Travis County – $125

Annual Permit for Non-Resident of Travis County – $200

Duplicate Annual Permit – $75

The $5 surcharge will not apply to people who have Annual and Duplicate Annual Permits.

These price increases go into effect on January 1, 2018. We recommend people consider purchasing their Annual Permits before January 1, especially if they live outside of Travis County.

Bike lanes won’t be added to Tyler streets for another four years, design being developed

by FAITH HARPER | www.tylerpaper.com

Motorists and cyclists will eventually share roads in Tyler, but a project to add bike lanes to the city’s streets is years away from fruition.
Four years, in fact.
The city of Tyler last week was awarded a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation to restripe existing roads in a way that makes space for bicyclists.
The end goal is to add …

Changed My Mind Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on November 4, 2017 by Rick AnkrumNovember 4, 2017

Yesterday I said I wouldn’t ride today but the warm weather won me over. Later this month 80+ degree days might be few and far between. I wanted to leave around 8:30 AM but the fog was slow in lifting so I held off until 9:59 AM. By then it was above the trees and the temperature was 75 with some sun shining through. I figured it wouldn’t take too long to burn off the fog. Because I wasn’t sure about the temperature getting to 80 before I finished the ride I put a long sleeve jersey under the University of Cincinnati short sleeve jersey. For about 5 miles that was okay but as the sun increased I thought about taking the long sleeve one off but didn’t.

Last November I biked 360+ miles so I want to at least go that many this year. With today’s 34.4 miles I am at 95 miles so I think I am on track. Today’s ride followed my “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route. During the ride I saw two other cyclists, one in Kings Forest and the other on Old Atascocita Road.

Later as I rode east of Lake Houston I noticed some of the roads were damp from rain so my fog delay probably kept me from riding in the rain.

A quick stop at the Huffman Chevron for ice and water was the only one during the ride.

I am pretty sure I won’t bike on Sunday because I want to watch the Texans game. The weather forecast calls for 87 degrees though.

Bike share options continue to grow in Dallas

By: FOX4News.com Staff | www.fox4news.com

The number of bike share options continues to increase in Dallas and shows no sign of slowing down.
OFO is the fourth company in the last several months to move hundreds of bikes into Dallas, and they may not be the last. Ofo joins three other companies — VBike, LimeBike and Spin.
While some cities opt for docking stations, which cost the city money, these are all dockless bikes. That means a rider can rent, ride and leave the bike at their destination.
Most people FOX4 talked to said they …

Bicyclist dies; councilman proposes bike trails

Michael Maresh | www.palestineherald.com

Following the death of a 59-year-old bicyclist in Palestine on Wednesday, City Councilman Mitchell Jordan said the city should build bike trails. Without them, he said, bicyclists are at risk.

“We definitely need it,” Mitchell told the Herald-Press on Friday. “A bike trail can’t cost much. People want to exercise and enjoy life. Quality-of-life needs a boost.”

At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Clifford Williams died, after a …
