About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Need more bikes, trails and rivers in your life? Try adventure racing

by Pam LeBlanc | www.mystatesman.com

Too Cool Adventure Racing serves up outdoor fun at Howl at the Moon race
I hear it first, like a maraca, an instant before the beam of my headlamp catches a rope-like shape slithering across the trail where I’m running at Colorado Bend State Park.
I hop like someone is taking potshots at my feet; my racing partner Ron Perry stops to get a closer look.
Yep, a 3-foot rattler. But we have places to go, so we …

What isn’t Mentioned on Transportation in San Antonio

Daniel Day | bikesanantonio.blogspot.com

As I was watching the recent League of Women Voters of the San Antonio Area forum called, “Transportation Needs of San Antonio: How are we preparing for the future?”, I was expecting the usual talking point that rail will save the day, and I got that. But I was surprised to see that Ana Sandoval, council woman for district 7, point out the problem, how we punish people for not having a car are paid less and many job ads demanding that you have “reliable transportation.” …

AD-HOC RIDE DOWNTOWN TO CELEBRATE ALEX DULANEY’S JOURNEY BACK IN THE SADDLE

ahoodwin | www.planobicycle.org

For those that don’t want to drive to downtown Dallas for a 20 mile ride (Dallas Bike Ride) can ride down there with us, meet Alex at The Gingerman and then ride back after the party. The pace will be B-Square-ish, but we’re not in any hurry. In other words, we won’t drop anyone especially after filling up on whatever the menu offers.
Why: Celebrate Alex Dulaney’s journey back to cycling
When: Saturday, November 4th at 9am
Where: N/W corner of Independence and 15th in Plano
Distance: 20 out; 20 back, approx. 40 total
Pace: 14-15mph
Here is the route we’ll be taking. The highlight is riding on the actual Katy Trail demonstrating its not just the name of a Plano restaurant/ bar …

Video: Former first lady: “We’re really enjoying life”

www.kwtx.com

CRAWFORD, Texas (KWTX) More than eight years has passed since Laura and George Bush lived in the White House and for the most part they’ve stayed out of the public spotlight since leaving Washington.
A Bush family photo as the former president and first lady pose with their daughters, son-in-law and granddaughters. (Courtesy photo)
Many days, you’ll find the former first lady taking morning walks on the couple’s 1,500-acre ranch near Crawford while her husband rides his bike on the trails or paints, a hobby he’s embraced since leaving office.
It’s a far cry from the life they lived in the media spotlight while George W. Bush served as president from 2000-2008.
But, if you ask Mrs. Bush about life today, she’ll tell you, “It’s good.” …

Nonprofit to give new life to broken bikes

By Rich Lopez | www.mrt.com

With a truck bed filled with used and broken bicycles, Gordon White has one thing in mind.

White’s help was much more than merely refurbishing bicycles. With a homespun twist, he began the nonprofit Project Peddle Pusher, which has a mission to collect used youth bicycles, fix and clean them up and distribute to underprivileged children during the holidays.
“My goal for this project is to …

A Voter’s Guide to the Bond Package

By Matt Goodman and Alex Macon | www.dmagazine.com

For years, you’ve likely dodged potholes and felt the pavement of the city streets deteriorating under your vehicle’s wheels. Perhaps you’ve thought it would be nice if you could ride your bike from the Design District out to the Trinity River Levee Trail by cycling along the edges of the southern end of Turtle Creek, without ever having to fight the traffic of Irving Boulevard. Maybe you’ve considered it archaic that our traffic signals seem completely out of touch with what’s happening on the street itself. Or, maybe you’re just tired of your neighborhood flooding when it rains.
On Nov. 7, voters will take to the …
