About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Harvey Came A Calling Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on September 1, 2017 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 1, 2017

What tales I have to tell since my last bike ride on August 24th. On August 25th driving to my wife’s brother’s memorial service we were in a car wreck escaping with no major injuries but totaling the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Then Saturday Harvey burst onto the scene and the rain started. My home weather station registered unbelievable amounts of rain but our house stayed dry but home and businesses less than 2 miles away flooded like I have never seen. Two days ago I rode my bike to the area south of me to see the water. A new HEB open for about a year flooded. A few pictures I took.

IMG_2838

Today I rode the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route to the north, not sure if the roads to the south were passable. If I had not known the rain amounts I would have been hard pressed to see flood damage except when I passed over the Caney Creek bridge on Loop 494 and saw sand washed onto the road in places. Near the end of the ride in Kingwood’s Bear Branch Village I heard generators running and as I got within 3 blocks of my house I could still hear the generators. Our internet service went out on Monday and was restored while I was biking today. We lost electricity several times but not for more than 5 or 6 hours at a time. I did not see any houses with carpet or other water damaged stuff on the curb along the route but if I had ventured a little off the route it would have been there.

Hopefully people recover but it will take awhile.

Tomorrow I will try riding to Huffman.

Today’s news is dominated by the HHH in Wichita Falls, one of the few dry places in Texas.

Remembering Iris Stagner

www.biketexas.org

Hotter’N Hell weekend is always a special time for us at BikeTexas. I look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. This year, one face is missing even more than usual, the one friend who I saw for the last time at Hotter’N Hell five years ago.
Iris Bicycle Sign
Iris Stagner poured her passion and zest for life into all that she did. Whether as a wife, a mother, a civil servant, an advocate, a friend, a cyclist, or a runner, Iris brought her whole heart to the table. Her work to bring “Share the Road” signs to Palo Pinto county is but one of many legacies she left behind.
I first came to know Iris as an advocate and in those early days provided some coaching on …

Uhl holds off pack to win HHH road race

Zach Duncan | www.timesrecordnews.com

Tristan Uhl admits criteriums are his strong suit and that he usually struggles with cramps in longer races.
But with an unusually cool morning providing less taxing conditions, the Austin resident felt that the Hotter’N Hell Hundred Men’s Pro 1-2 road race was available for the taking.
Uhl outsprinted the peloton to the finish line in a time of 3:41.17, less than …
