About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas 4000 riders leave Austin for Anchorage

www.fox7austin.com

Early Saturday morning the Texas 4000 team left Austin for Anchorage, Alaska. They will ride for the next 70 days. Their mission is to fight cancer each mile.
Each rider takes part for a different reason. For Luis Salazar, 23, it’s personal.
“My mother got cancer when I was in high school,” Salazar said. “I don’t think the gravity of the situation hit me. I …

Mixed Up Streets Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 3, 2017 by Rick AnkrumJune 3, 2017

I mixed the roads up on today’s bike ride by rearranging the streets making the route “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” rather than the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route. Bicycling 32.44 miles the distance was about the same but riding on the other side of the street from what I normally do makes it different. The bumps and cracks I know by memory are no longer there and I need to look for new ones. Variety helps make the bike rides new and requires my attention.

Four other bikers passed along the route: one at Kingwood Drive by the old HEB, one on Fairlake Drive and the other two on Old Atascocita Road. I started too late (11:01 AM) to see more bikers from the Bike Barn Saturday ride.

Only a 2 or 3 minute stop at the Huffman Chevron to refill my water bottle at 17.9 miles into the bike ride. Typically the mileage is 21+ which shows rearranging the order of the route was going to be more than 11+ miles from the Chevron station to the end like usual. Now it would be 16+ miles.

Weather was pleasant but I sweat a lot. I need to start wearing wrist bands to slow the moisture moving down my arms to my gloves. *4 degrees at the start and 88 at the finish (1:35 PM). Mostly cloudy sky and a light breeze.

Today is the seventh day in a row riding so I may take a rest day tomorrow. I rode 221.77 miles this week. Also the Astros are on TV at 1:30PM.

One day out from 24hrs in the Canyon for cancer survivors update

by dcescott | www.reddit.com

Good morning. I’m psyched for the race! All packed up, two bikes, extra tires, tubes, kits, bringing it all. Weather report: 100% humidity at night. I will be soaked at 60°F . Most importantly, I am looking forward in meeting those who I am serving through this campaign in raising funds for their yearly budget.
On the fundraising side, I am beyond thankful for the contributions. I’m in the top 5. Lesson learned: Keep at it and use social media where you can. Reach out and don’t be passive. What sold me into this place? 100% goes directly to …
