Last ride for May 2017. I selected the “SR242 – Old Houston Rd – FM1314” route in order to ride more than 40 miles and ended up riding 42.12 miles boosting May total miles to 393.48. This exceeded my goal by 93.48 miles, not bad considering we were on vacation from May 2nd to May 21st.
Nothing unusual during the bike ride today. I stopped for a rest break at 30.4 miles at the Valero station on FM 1314 and Sorters Road. It lasted about 15 minutes as I sat drinking ice water after refilling my water bottle. I sat on a stack of bottled water outside. The wildflowers along the road are almost gone with a few yellow ones hanging on.
I started at 11:35 and finished at 2:46. The weather was not too hot with 88 degrees at the end of the bike ride. Mostly cloudy skies held the sun back some and the light 5 mph breeze was just enough to dry some of the sweat as I rode.
Rain might stop me from bicycling tomorrow but I will be on the road if it doesn’t.

I enjoy rescuing bikes and making them run well. I have looked around Austin for donation opportunities but I have not been excited about the options. The yellow bike project is a disorganized mess and my donations appear to go into a big heap of bike part bins to never be seen or used again ( I have volunteered there and I have seen it). I am not dissing YBP. They provide a great service. I just want …

With no bike races to watch I started today’s bike ride a little earlier than normal leaving at 10:41 and finishing at 1:51 PM. The bike ride followed the “Stroker Road – Huffman” route for a total of 40.68 miles. The weather was pleasant with 80 degrees as I rolled out the driveway moving up to 88 degrees at the end. Partly cloudy skies meant the sun moved in and out but it wasn’t too hot thanks to the light 5 mph NE breeze plus me moving through the air. The short sleeve jersey/shorts combination kept me comfortable as the temperature would allow.
A 15 minute break at the Huffman Chevron at the 29.3 mile point (12:45 PM) was enough to cool down, eat some snack crackers, refill my water bottle and sit in the shade. Leaving the station the bike ride west was easy thanks to a nice tailwind.
My warranty repaired PowerPod is working nicely, recording my energy output meager as it may be. When I was watching the Giro d’Italia one of the commentators remarked about how the GC contenders like to ride in the peloton and turn the cranks as little as possible to conserve energy. Also it was interesting to see the power output of some of the racers on the screen. some of the numbers were not that far from mine.
More nice weather tomorrow so I hope to be back on the Stradalli bicycling.
