About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Cy-Fair grad Reghan Conrey tackling the Texas 4000

By Kevin Cook | www.chron.com

On June 2, Cy-Fair High School grad Reghan Conrey will embark on a 70-day, 4,500-mile bicycle journey from Austin, TX to Anchorage, AK as part of the 14th annual Texas 4000 charity bike ride.
The event, which features more than 70 riders traveling three distinct routes from Austin to Anchorage, has raised more than $7 million for cancer research, donating to organizations like the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas at Austin Department of Biomedical Engineering and numerous others.
The charity bike ride’s mission appealed to Conrey – enough that she picked up bike riding for the first time in November, in …

Lend Your Legs:Social Cycling Austin And Texas School For The Blind

www.travelbreakingnews.net

The TSBVI has some tandem bikes for us to use. We are meeting at the school and taking the kids on a social ride. It’s an incredible experience to say the least. This is a chance to make a kiddo’s week just by riding your bike (something you would more than likely be doing anyway). One of our volunteers made this short about the ride a while back. http://tinyurl.com/3vvwtdx VOLUNTEER FORM AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE:http://tinyurl.com/4y8ge9n You only need to fill this out if you want to captain a tandem. If not, just show up, ride and hang out with the kiddos. But I highly recommend filling out the form. You’ll want to ride with a kid. …

Want free breakfast? Ride your bike to work May 19!

by Pam LeBlanc | /fitness.blog.austin360.com

Bike to Work Day ranks high on my list of best days of the year.
Stations all over the city handing out free breakfast items and coffee to people who pedal to work? Not much better than that.
This year’s event is set for May 19, and more than 40 official locations will participate, along with a smattering of rogue stations that tend to pop up around town.
Bike Austin organizes the event as a way to thank regular commuters – but also as a way to get new …

City council recognizes May as ‘Sherman Bike Month’

By Abbie Maynard | www.kxii.com

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) — The month of May is now officially recognized as “Sherman Bike Month.” It’s all a part of a proclamation and resolution passed at Monday’s city council meeting.
Without designated space on Sherman streets, bikers ride just inches away from the cars speeding by.
This is just one of the bicycle safety issues the council members declared a priority at Monday night’s meeting.
“This just helps create some awareness and moves that project along down the road and shows the citizens and the city that …

Built from a love of bike riding, the ranch offers visitors the chance to get out and ride on twisty trails under the pine trees and …

May Day Bike Ride To Tavola

Texbiker.net Posted on May 1, 2017 by Rick AnkrumMay 1, 2017

May is off to a good start with a 34.38 mile long bike ride on the “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route. I was on the bike at 11:27 am dressed lighter than yesterday. I wore a short sleeve jersey and shorts today since the temperature was a comfortable 83 degrees under a clear blue sky. The wind was from the SW at 12 mph with some 17 mph gusts. I didn’t have any trouble with the wind until I made the turn back to the south at 17 miles into the ride. This took place at Roman Forest Blvd. as I exited the loop through Tavola. As I rode onto Roman Forest Blvd. from Tavola I wondered what the construction is all about behind the new Shell station which is not open yet. Maybe Tavola is expanding to the north or maybe New Caney ISD is building a new middle school?

The Strava data says the temperature was 95 but that is wrong, it was 87 at the end of the trip.

No rest stops on today’s bike ride with the weather so perfect and I felt good. I finished the ride at 1:54 pm. After several rides on the new Blue Norcross AL bike I decided to use my Stradalli RP-14 Carbon for this ride. Since my PowerPod is on the way back to Velocomp for repair no power meter numbers for the ride.

The last month of school starts today. I saw several schools with notices that the STARR (I hope I got the name right) tests are next week and no visitors are allowed. No school traffic today since I rode by early enough to miss the dismissals.
