About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Man Bikes to Valley from Wisconsin

www.krgv.com

MERCEDES–A winter Texan rode his bike through seven states to make his way to the valley.
Bill Laney started in Wisconsin and ended in Mercedes. It added up to 1,928 miles. Bill Laney said the idea came from his son.
“My oldest son gives me a book every Christmas and last Christmas he gave me this book titled The Oregon Trail, so half way through the book, I started thinking well, I could do that with a bike,” Laney said.
When his wife, Marcia, heard about Bill’s idea, her first …

Day 27: Austin to a bit east of Burton: Almost escaped the rain
Sunday November 6, 2016, 77 miles (124 km) – Total so far: 1,722 miles (2,771 km)
Slow start to the morning, in the road at 10.30. I rang an RV park, Artesian Park, which is a little east of Button to ask if they had campsites and the owner said I could stay for free. Amazing people.
The ride today was all along highway 290 so nothing particularly exciting to see. There were great bike paths out of the city and generally the road was good apart from between 20 and 30 miles out of the city there were areas where the shoulder became non existent with a fair bit of traffic. Had to ride on the grass for a little bit. I was racing the weather all day and it finally …

Share The Road Y’all is a Two-Way Street

By BH Volunteer, LC

I am a bicyclist. When I moved to Houston in 2006, I got a rude awakening in terms of how people driving treated people bicycling. I encountered rude drivers even when riding through neighborhood streets and received my fair share of honking and one-fingered waves. Fast-forward ten years and the landscape has changed: I have seen noticeable improvements in bicycle awareness and making Houston a more bicycle -friendly city. Much of this can be …

It’s frustrating to me that, in southwest Austin, the only east/west through roads north of William Cannon (71/290 and SW Parkway) have long stretches without shoulders or even sidewalks. Even William Cannon all you get is a sidewalk for most of it. It’s so unsafe to ride a …

Gears and Groceries: Take A Bike Tour of Houston’s Farmers Markets

Pedal your way to a healthy holiday season while checking off your shopping list.

Houstonians know any temperature under 80 degrees should never be taken for granted. The first cool front of the season is always met with a mad scramble to throw open our windows and unpack our boots before it’s quickly replaced by another heat wave. This season, we think there is no better way to enjoy the fleeting fall weather than with a leisurely bike tour of Houston’s farmers markets.
