About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Ride Interview- Red River Bike Rally- Pottsboro, Texas

By Jennifer Jones

www.wheelbrothers.com

Many know that Lake Texoma houses a beautiful expanse of scenic views, but it is also home to a great ride, the Red River Bike Rally.
This ride allows riders of all skill levels and interests to enjoy the magnificent scenery throughout a day of riding. There are many other surprises along the routes, including home made goodies to all the pizza you can eat following the ride. This ride is loved by many in the Lake Texoma community and would be a great pre-ride for athletes gearing up for the Hotter’N Hell Hundred only 2 weeks later.
Here is an interview with Bike Rally Chairman, Joe Brown. He paints a picture of what it is like to really be at the ride.
As a cyclist, why join the ride? …

Trail Intersection Success! The intersection of White Oak Drive and the Heights Bike Trail was made safer by the placement of no-parking signs immediately adjacent to the trail. This is a small but notable success especially in terms of City process working to make streets safer! Old Problem Popped Up Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 1, 2016 by Rick AnkrumAugust 1, 2016

A new week and a new month but an old problem popped up this morning. I went out to the garage to unlock and do my morning bike tire check. Front tire checked great, rear tire checked soft. I brought the wheel inside to find the problem. I suspected the flat I had last Monday might be the cause after looking at the tire tread and not finding anything sticking in or out. Visual inspection of the tube around the patch didn’t find a leak but the water test did. As I suspected my patch was slowly leaking a bubble or two per second. The tube only has two patches and I hated to replace it. I pealed off the patch and saw it was barely covering the hole. Cleaning up the area I applied glue and waited for it to dry and then positioned a new patch over the hole. Then I aired up the tube and did a water test again. No leaking air. The tube went back in the tire and I mounted the tire, aired it up and put it back on the bike. I wasn’t riding for another hour and I went out to check before I got dressed. The tire was rock hard and ready to ride.

After watching the Tour de Portugal I got ready and started the ride at 12:18 on the “Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman” route. My goal for August is 800 miles and I wanted to ride 30+ miles. I biked 33.55 miles today, about 4% of my goal. I figure I need to ride 200+ miles each week to hit my goal; 167 miles to go this week. I will watch the Tour of Utah on my DVR shortly.

It was hot today and this week it could hit 100 several days. My home weather station reports are below.

I stopped at the Huffman Chevron at 21.2 miles into the ride. The shade was nice and I dried off as I rested. At first I thought the wind wasn’t going to blow but it slowly started moving.

8-1-2016 Huffman Chevron
8-1-2016 Huffman Weather

After resting about 30 minutes I was back on the bike headed home for the final 11+ miles. I finished the ride at 3:17.

Maybe I can start earlier tomorrow.
