About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

By David Freeze

www.salisburypost.com

Editor’s note: Rowan County resident David Freeze is off on his latest summertime cycling adventure. This time, he’s riding the famed Route 66 from California to Chicago.
My string of good choices on motels is bound to run out soon, but the Historic Route 66 Motel in Tucumcari, N.M.,was another positive. Thanks to Cathy Fulton for being a great hostess. I hit the road this morning not sure how far to ride today and planned to let things develop on their own. …

Stories to inspire you to get out, enjoy

By Alana Norris

www.vicksburgpost.com

The wind in your hair, the sun blazing down, legs pumping hard— bike riding may be seen to some as a child’s game but I’ve noticed many adults still revel in this activity.
Here in Vicksburg we have the Vicksburg National Military Park that gives riders rolling hills to travel up and down through shade trees, open fields of grass, monuments as far as the eye can see and a cemetery or two. I personally have not taken to the park on a bike yet because I don’t have a bike here, but I intend to some day challenge myself on the rigorous terrain.
My father got into bike riding about six years ago and brought me in on his newfound hobby not long after. Fortunately there are plenty of picturesque trails were my parents live too, and we would take …

Almost 100 Degrees, “Oakhurst – Valley Ranch” Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 3, 2016 by Rick AnkrumJuly 3, 2016

It was hot when I started today’s ride (12:27) and even hotter when I finished (2:45). As I rode away from home I wondered if staying home inside with cooler air was a better idea but as I rode along my body must have adjusted some. The air moving around me and through my jersey provided some cooling and I think I started to sweat which helped a lot. Because I started late I chose the “Oakhurst – Valley Ranch” route and rode 30.53 miles. This was enough to increase July’s mileage to 105 miles. Not bad for three days into the month. I will not bike tomorrow because it is the Fourth of July; a parade, relaxing and fireworks as we celebrate the birth of our country. Throw in some hot dogs, corn on the cob and apple pie and we have the makings of an All-American Day.

The wind was not very helpful when I rode south into it. At the end of the ride I checked the airport weather to see the wind was from the south at 10 mph with 19 mph gusts. Those gusts took all of my energy as I rode south on the I-69/US59 service road from Valley Ranch Parkway to Northpark Drive. I made a stop at the Texaco station at Valley Ranch Crossing for water, ice and a banana. I didn’t eat much before leaving home and I didn’t want to bonk before I got back. After the short stop I had some energy to pedal into that tough wind. There were a few spots where the wind let up but they were not enough.

I was glad to be back home and the A/C was welcomed. Now I will catch up on stage 2 of the TdF.

Joshua Phillips opens Cycology bike shop

ROY MAYNARD

www.tylerpaper.com

When Joshua Phillips designed his new bicycle shop, Cycology, he purposely left an opening from the shop floor to the retail space. It’s for chatting. The focus of his business is as much building community as it is building up a retail base.
“I wanted to have a cooler bike shop,” he said. “I want this business to be a community space. Sure, you can come and buy a bike, and we’ll do the regular upkeep and repairs, but this will also be a place where people …
