About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas woman will bike 700 miles to honor late brother and raise fentanyl awareness

By Ileana Garnand | www.lonestarlive.com

Jeannette Krupp doesn’t consider herself a cyclist, but she’s biking 700 miles from Texas to Missouri to raise awareness of substance use disorders and life-saving interventions like Narcan.

“When I ride every mile, I ride in memory of somebody,” Krupp said.

Krupp is the founder of nonprofit Stay Strong Krupp, launched in 2019 after a cousin died of fentanyl poisoning and her brother was struggling to stay sober. After a lifetime of seeing her hometown of Owensville, Missouri, “destroyed” by methamphetamine, she felt like she had to act.

“I decided to take off on a bicycle,” Krupp said. “I was tired of …

Canyon Endurace + CamelBak Conquer the Heat: A 39.77-Mile Summer Adventure

Texbiker.net Posted on August 20, 2024 by Rick AnkrumAugust 20, 2024

I almost made it; starting the ride by 9 AM. I missed by 6 minutes rolling out at 9:06 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike. The route name was the same as yesterday, Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive, but I changed some of the streets in the early part of the ride. After entering Woodridge Forest I headed to Adams Street, Rosedale Landing and back into Woodridge Forest. This added about 2 miles to yesterday’s distance. From there the route followed the same streets until W. Lake Houston Parkway at Upper Lake Drive. I rode to the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail on Kings Park Way following it to Farmingham Road. Then I made the loop through Walden, back to FM1960. The rest of the ride was the same as yesterday. I did see another cyclist on Old Atascocita Road braving the sun and heat. The distance totaled 39.77 miles exceeding the 36 miles I aimed for at the beginning. This keeps me on track for 200+ miles for the week with 77.55 so far. Two more days to ride before I head to the HH100. I used my CamelBak on the ride and the water was still cold at the finish unlike the Osprey Katari. So the CamelBak wins the trip to the HH100. I finished at 12:24 PM before it got really hot. Weather: Start 83 degrees, humidity 83%, dew point 77.4, mostly cloudy, wind SW 5 mph; Finish 94 degrees, humidity 58%, dew point 76.6, partly cloudy, wind W 6 mph.

Journalist Rocks Hotter’N Hell Hundred Shirt and Leaves Foreign Viewers Confused

Stryker | 1063thebuzz.com

Living in Wichita Falls we know about the Hotter’N Hell Hundred, but many folks learned about our iconic 100 mile bike ride last night. Meet Margriet van der Linden

Today I discovered folks over in Netherlands were very confused when tuning into a discussion called Zomergasten. Thanks to Google Translate, I am able to get a basic breakdown of what happened last night. Basically this is a serious series over in the Netherlands talking about different political issues. The host for this episode is a woman named Margriet van der Linden and you will notice she is rocking a very interesting t-shirt. …

HHH: How to stay safe while riding this year

by: Curtis Jackson | www.texomashomepage.com

WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Five days away from the largest bike ride in the entire nation, Hotter’N Hell officials want to remind riders and drivers who will be on the road Saturday to be very aware of their surroundings while they’re out.

As you can imagine, riding one hundred miles on a bike in hundred-degree temps is not an easy feat, and Hotter’n Hell founder Roby Christie said there are multiple dangers to look out for while conquering this massive ride.

“Things like getting too hot and …

Cervelo Caledonia and Me: Logging 37 Miles and Fine-Tuning for the Rigors of the HH100

Texbiker.net Posted on August 19, 2024 by Rick AnkrumAugust 19, 2024

This week sets up my ride at the HH100. With only four days to ride plus a travel day I want to ride enough for 200+ miles. I figure each day should be 35 miles or more. To make things simple I will ride south and east each day on mostly the same route, Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive. This route averages around 36.5 miles. Today I added several streets before leaving Kingwood and the W. Lake Houston Parkway to Farmingham Road section of the Atascocita Hike and Bike Trail. This put the ride total at 37.76 miles. A good first day. I wanted to start the ride before 9 AM to avoid some of the heat but the best I could do was wheels rolling at 9:35 AM on my Cervelo Caledonia. I could’ve improved that by a few minutes except the battery on the speed sensor was dead and replacing it delayed me. Before eating breakfast I aired the tires up to 80 psi which made the Cervelo feel a little more spiritedly when I pedaled. I took the Osprey hydration pack filled with ice and water. I think the black color absorbs the heat quicker than my CamelBak melting the ice before I finished the ride at 12:53 PM. Tomorrow I will use the CamelBak to compare it. The better one will win a trip to the HH100. According to a weather app on my phone when I finished it was 100 degrees. The forecast says that will repeat tomorrow.

Weather: Start 87 degrees, humidity 77%, dew point 78.6, mostly cloudy, wind W 10 mph; Finish 94 degrees, humidity 60%, dew point 77.9, cloud cover 38%, wind WSW 3 mph.
