This was supposed to be a rest day. Even with some short mileage days in the mix, I’ve been in the saddle for 19 of the last 21 days. Physically, I really feel pretty good. I am ready for a day just off, for the mental break and the chance to spend some time with Sweet Cheryl. Tomorrow, after I take care of some unfinished business, like a student who misses an exam. That missed exam was the 25 miles I didn’t ride between Alpine and Marfa in the face of the nasty headwind yesterday.
We ran into Johnny Hill again this morning. He battled the wind from Marathon all the way to Marfa yesterday and is resting a tender knee. Such a great kid. …

Deb dropped me off about 10:30 am where I had ended by ride yesterday and I started with a small tailwind. I covered 8 miles in 30 minutes and then the wind shifted to a cross wind then headwind and it took me an hour and a quarter to cover the next 26 miles to Alpine. A coral snake crossed the highway in front of me in my slow progress. Why did the snake cross the road? My hunch is that was downwind.

Today is Monday, 4/11. Sorry to be so far behind but with the lack of cell/wifi coverage I had no choice. I have kept notes on each day to refresh my memory but between trying to catch up and lack of immediacy, please forgive me.
Also because of the connection issues, I may have to wait until I have good wifi to update photos in the journey. I’m working on cell only right now.
Today we went from Seminole Canyon to Del Rio. Seminole Canyon seems to be very interesting with old Indian drawings on the canyon walls, but due to the length of the riding day fighting the winds didn’t have a chance to do a tour. I’m REALLY enjoying myself on this tour, but I also feel as if I’m missing a lot of stuff too. There are plus and minus’ with any touring option – as long as I’m touring – it the beats the other options. …
