Sunday, April 10: Shepherd, Texas, to Silsbee, Texas
61 miles

Since we didn’t need to pack up our tent, we were ready to leave a bit earlier than usual today. It was another beautiful morning, overcast, but a comfortable temperature. Before we left, though, I wanted to take a photo of our “cabin” so you could get the flavor of the place. …

HOUSTON (KTRK) — Two months ago, Adessa Ellis and her friends were getting ready for the MS 150 bike ride.
It was early on a Saturday morning, along Highway 90 in Fort Bend County. It was perfect biking weather.
Michelle Nelson recalls, “We were in mid conversation. We still had eye contact. Then I saw something black move across my field of vision, and I saw my friend thrown …

Day thirty five – Alpine to Marfa: Make up exam
Monday April 11, 2016, 26 miles (42 km) – Total so far: 1,766 miles (2,842 km)
This was supposed to be a rest day. Even with some short mileage days in the mix, I’ve been in the saddle for 19 of the last 21 days. Physically, I really feel pretty good. I am ready for a day just off, for the mental break and the chance to spend some time with Sweet Cheryl. Tomorrow, after I take care of some unfinished business, like a student who misses an exam. That missed exam was the 25 miles I didn’t ride between Alpine and Marfa in the face of the nasty headwind yesterday.
We ran into Johnny Hill again this morning. He battled the wind from Marathon all the way to Marfa yesterday and is resting a tender knee. Such a great kid. …

Day 42 – Marathon, to Fort Davis State Park, and Day 43 Rest Day: 80% thru Texas
Sunday April 10, 2016, 38 miles (61 km) – Total so far: 1,922 miles (3,093 km)
Breakfast at Eve’s Garden Organic B&B consisted of french toast of homemade bread and strawberry pineapple mango puree, fresh berries on baked custard and non-organic bacon. Can you taste it now?
Deb dropped me off about 10:30 am where I had ended by ride yesterday and I started with a small tailwind. I covered 8 miles in 30 minutes and then the wind shifted to a cross wind then headwind and it took me an hour and a quarter to cover the next 26 miles to Alpine. A coral snake crossed the highway in front of me in my slow progress. Why did the snake cross the road? My hunch is that was downwind.
I passed another cowboy church this being Sunday morning, and there were many trucks & cars in the parking lot. After …

Seminole Canyon to Del Rio: My 2 Worst Fears
Friday April 8, 2016, 41 miles (66 km) – Total so far: 1,446 miles (2,328 km)
Today is Monday, 4/11. Sorry to be so far behind but with the lack of cell/wifi coverage I had no choice. I have kept notes on each day to refresh my memory but between trying to catch up and lack of immediacy, please forgive me.
Also because of the connection issues, I may have to wait until I have good wifi to update photos in the journey. I’m working on cell only right now.
Today we went from Seminole Canyon to Del Rio. Seminole Canyon seems to be very interesting with old Indian drawings on the canyon walls, but due to the length of the riding day fighting the winds didn’t have a chance to do a tour. I’m REALLY enjoying myself on this tour, but I also feel as if I’m missing a lot of stuff too. There are plus and minus’ with any touring option – as long as I’m touring – it the beats the other options. …
Lost Maples State Natural Area to Kerrville: Pasted Half-way Point.
Monday April 11, 2016, 50 miles (80 km) – Total so far: 1,632 miles (2,627 km)
Still trying to play catch-up and running out of time today. Tomorrow is another long day with thunderstorms in afternoon so want to get out early.
One significant point is we passed the half-way point in mileage when we reached Hunt, TX. Below is picture of our group entering Hunt. Will finish later as was very interesting day. …

Luba: still Texas but not a Texas Hill Country anymore
Monday April 11, 2016
Were changing our departure time today several time trying to avoid the rain. We almost managed it beside just a little drizzle that did not bother us since it was very warm. The ACA route took us on very pretty and quiet back roads. One dog tried to approach Leonid and me but we growled at it and the poor creature ran away in dismay. …

Apr 11: To Hillsboro
Monday April 11, 2016, 68 miles (109 km) – Total so far: 3,243 miles (5,219 km)

There were some storms around last night. From my sheltered hilltop viewpoint I could see lightning flashing far away. None came especially close however!
Over breakfast I decided it may be prudent to look a couple of days ahead and see what’s coming up. Sure enough the next couple of days look rather sparse for services, so I decided to stock up on my way through Hatch. I also noticed that the Gila Cliff Dwellings were only a couple of days away. It’s a …
