About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Driscoll Makes it a Texas Trifecta with Win at Highlander Cross Cup: Elite Men’s Day One Race Report, Results and Photos

www.cxmagazine.com

For their part, the Elite Men at the first day of the Highlander Cross Cup in Waco, Texas took to the challenging course with little concern for the toll it may take. The pace was fast and riders never let off leaving all but the strongest to straggle in.
Start was fast and smooth, and saw Tristan Uhl (Giant South) with the hole shot. Attached to his wheel was Zac McDonlad (Streamline Insurance), a racer we haven’t heard or seen much of this season, but who recently announced he’d be on Alchemy Bikes. Also in close pursuit, and onto the first stretch of grass was Chris Durmmond (SPCX p/b RK Black) out of Oklahoma.
It looked to be a good group, and a controlled start with …

Putting On Races Is Hard Work

by Bill Cullins        bcullins.blogspot.com

Someone told me a few weeks ago that “there’s really not much work involved in putting on a race.”
Those of you who have actually directed or helped organize events know the opposite is true. Doing a good job of putting on an event (even a small race) involves much more than just lining up the racers and saying ‘Go’.
Properly done, the job of planning and directing an event starts weeks or even months before the actual race date with the overarching goals being to put on a fun, safe and well-planned event that …

Want to Race Your Bike?
FAQs for Getting Started in Austin
Everyone has to start somewhere, and at the very beginning we’re all in the same boat: we know we like to ride bikes, but how one goes about doing that competitively is something of a mystery. Often “the way things work” in the Austin cycling scene is word of mouth, and you might not have the right person to ask or even have a firm grasp on your questions. Here’s a very basic FAQ for someone who knows nothing but wants to learn more.
What is bike racing? (also: upgrading and the category system)
There are lots of different types of bike racing, from track racing to mountain biking to adventure racing to cyclocross. This post will focus almost exclusively on road cycling—criterium races, road races, stage races, time trials, and the like—all of which take …
