About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Lots of Wet Leaves on the Trails Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on December 14, 2015 by Rick AnkrumDecember 14, 2015

After a big change in the weather yesterday (Sunday) today turned out a lot better than I expected. The cool front passed through and it was 72 degrees when I left home to ride the Kingwood Greenbelt trails at 1:15. The sky was clear and the wind was light. It rained all day yesterday so the trails were wet in some places. With the wind we experienced leaves covered the trail in places where I had to look closely to stay on the concrete.

I tried a different route intending to ride to the Northpark Recreation Area. As I got to the turn I saw some construction workers ahead where Woodland Hills Drive had been extended. It was time to explore and I found a new way to reach Woodridge Forest subdivision. I took the streets to the roundabout in Woodridge Forest before heading south to Northpark Drive. Before doing that I took these pictures of the lake in Woodridge Forest.

12-14-2015 Bike Ride-1

Crossing Northpark Drive I got back on the trails and headed south to Lake Houston Parkway. At Town Center I stopped to take these pictures.

12-14-2015 Bike Ride-4

After taking the pictures I rode south through Kingwood Greens and onto W. Lake Houston Parkway. The warm weather and shinning sun was perfect. I did wear long and short sleeve jerseys and wasn’t too warm.

I moved into 6600 miles for the year with this ride. The next couple of days could be even warmer so bike riding will be in my plans.

2015: A Year in Review

by Johnny Guzman        bicyclepointofview.blogspot.com

2015 done and dusted: Does time fly quickly or what?
It seemed like a couple of weeks ago that I was typing January’s blog post about my first mountain bike race. Flash forward 12 months later and it will soon be January again in a couple of weeks. This year was packed with travel, illness and a couple of trips to the emergency room. Between all of us in the family we met our yearly medical insurance deductible for the first time in doctor’s visits. First I injured my leg the day before my mountain bike race which resulted in a big bruise that filled with fluid in my leg called either a seroma or hematoma.  A few months after that the whole family contracted mononucleosis after a cruise to the tropics. My son was in the emergency room twice, once for slipping at a water park which resulted in stitches on his head and he is currently recovering from a broken leg from landing incorrectly on a trampoline. My wife and I both had our tonsils removed and as I write this it …

Texas State Cross Championships!

Daniel Curtin is a staple in the Texas ‘cross, death ride, beer, and pastry scene. Following one-to-many sand bagger comments, he recently upgraded to a cat 2. Kudos are in order and we can all say we knew him when – Daniel is also the new editor of CXMagazine.com. Congrats Daniel!

This past weekend saw cross racers from around Texas descend on Mason Park and Cullen Park for age-based and skills-based races and statewide bragging rights.
The Texas cross schedule was a departure this year with more regional racing than ever before; a corresponding regional cup series; a Texas “Elite Cup” series of races, which the state championships were a part of; and the traditional Texas Cup overall for Elite Series winners and the best …

Part 2…more pictures…

… This was only a 11 day vacation and driving down from Missouri we only had so much time to ride.
We did go to Big Bend…we were camping in our truck also. We did 2 overnights on the bikes, the one already described and we also did one where we parked at Panther Junction in the National park and rode down (and I do mean down) to Rio Grande Village and camped. Then back up up and up and more up to Panther Junction. That trip was only 40 miles roundtrip, our legs were tired from our Presidio/lajitas trip (100 miles roundtrip).
Years ago I did some bicycle touring but just got back into it a few …
