About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

11/28 & 11/29 Rides: Round Mountain! Red Horn! START TIME HAS CHANGED

by Thomas        steinerranchcycling.com

NOTE: THE START TIME HAS CHANGED TO 8:30 AM FOR WEEKEND RIDES!

It looks like we have another soggy, cold, and windy Saturday ahead. If it isn’t raining, let’s try to burn off some of the horrible quantities we put into our bodies yesterday with a longish ride to the Liberty Hill store via round mountain. Keep an eye on your email and Facebook for cancelation notices (or use your own judgement based on conditions). After …

Groups can purchase one or two bikes for donation. Party goers show up for pizza and beer, and mechanics from …

Here’s Why Sherman, Texas Needs More Bike Trails

by Sholdon Daniels        www.slantnews.com

One of my favorite things about living in Houston was that I got to ride my bike everywhere. That city is so bike friendly.  Whenever I woke up to a beautiful day and didn’t want to fight traffic, I’d take my bike.  I rode it to school because I lived near a bike trail that led into another trail that ran right through the center of campus.  I could ride my bike to the barber shop, the grocery store, and even to my …

Getting Ready for Thanksgiving Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on November 25, 2015 by Rick AnkrumNovember 25, 2015

The weather warmed up from yesterday to 75 degrees although the sky was overcast. the wind at the George Bush IAH airport was 15 mph from the SE so riding at time required some huge effort. I decided to ride the “Oakhurst – Cumberland – Valley Ranch” route to get some variety before Thanksgiving Day. Maybe the riding and skipping lunch will counteract the extra eating tomorrow.

Traffic was moderate and all the schools and college were closed as I rode by them. All the other bicyclists either stayed home or went before I came along. I left home at 12:11 and returned at 2:46.

The hardest places to ride today due to the wind: going southeast on FM1314 to Porter and the southbound US59/I-69 service road from Valley Ranch to Northpark Drive. On these sections I rode into the teeth of the wind.

I may have overdressed with a long sleeve jersey and a short sleeve jersey but I was comfortable but sweaty. No leg warmers on this ride which I wore yesterday.

Today was number 17 on the “Oakhurst – Cumberland – Valley Ranch” route. The Grand Parkway FM1314 overpass work still has FM1314 lanes reduced. The parkway is supposed to open by the end of the year. Will they make it?

I stopped at the Shell station at Cumberland Crossing and took these screenshots of the weather. The wind speed is quite different from the airport but I can vouch that it wasn’t easy riding.

11-25-2015 Cumberland Weather-2
11-25-2015 Cumberland Weather-3
11-25-2015 Cumberland Weather-4

My goal for 2015 is only 16 miles away; I am at 6484 YTD.
