Viking warriors of Norse myths were escorted to Valhalla, a great hall ruled by Odin himself, by winged women know as valkyries.
Two modern day warriors undertaking their own “Ride to Valhalla” are traveling by bicycle.
Zach Garner and Adam Smith, Special Forces soldiers who first met in Southern Pines, are roughly half way into their cross country trek to raise money for a nonprofit that helps the families of special operations soldiers.
They left Aug. 1 from near Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. The two are slated to arrive in Fayetteville next month.
Speaking from Quanah, Texas, last week, the soldiers said they were raising awareness and money for the Task Force Dagger Foundation. …

What up yall, did some searching but didn’t come up with much as far as relocation/new-to-area threads. I grew up in Dallas but have lived in CO/CA/UT for the past 20+ years. Finally thinking of coming back to TX as I just had an interview in the Austin area. I’m definitely spoiled here in SLC as I have trail access to a huge network right out the backdoor, can shuttle the Wasatch Crest, Porcupine, and others relatively close. I know TX doesn’t have that but as far as TX goes, Austin looks like the best bet for maintaining some semblance of an outdoor lifestyle. Agreed?

The Houston Grand Prix of Cyclocross is the regional cyclocross series for greater Houston area. The regional series is run in coordination with the Texas Bicycle Racing Association, and uses category structures that coordinate to the Texas Cup statewide series.
The Houston GP of Cyclocross is a 5 part series of races starting September 26th 2015, and runs until November 21st before the State Championships at Mason park.

CONWAY — World War II and Korean War veteran Floyd Brantley of Conway can run circles around people decades younger than him — or at least ride a bicycle farther.
Brantley, who will be 90 on Oct. 16, said he has always enjoyed exercising and riding bicycles, but he started riding more seriously about a year ago. “I’ve been bicycling all my life — since I was 10, 12 years old. I used to ride them backward, frontward, every which way.†…
… A native of Texas, he had a brother who was killed in Guadalcanal in World War II. Brantley lived in Nacogdoches, Texas, until he was 16 and he moved with his mother to Lufkin, Texas. His parents were divorced.

The final 18 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys zipped up on Saturday in downtown Ogden, Utah, as the criterium competition closed out the 2015 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships.
