About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

by DeAnn Lopez        cbs7.com

The bicycle enthusiast was involved in a hit and run off Kermit Highway (302) Tuesday morning.

Murdock was on his way to meet a group of other cyclists at their regular coffee shop in Goldsmith when…

Join us for Cranksgiving on Nov 29th!

by June Bug        forums.mtbr.com

Thought I’d post this here to help get the word out to anyone who might want to participate.
Each year Austin Ridge Riders holds the Cranksgiving Event on the Saturday after Thanksgiving; this year’s fund raising recipient is Boneshakers, a group that works to develop a healthy and active lifestyle for kids….on bikes: www.boneshakers.org
We are at a new venue this year (Flat Creek Ranch and adjacent Pedernales Falls State Park), but the format is the same: the event lasts 6 hours and a rider gets a raffle ticket for each 7-mile lap completed. A total loop on both properties would be ~16 miles, and yes, the trails on each property connect. The closest towns to the …

Single Speed Mountain Biking: My New Favorite Thing

A Bicycle’s Point of View

No shocks, no gears, no clipless pedals, no carbon. “What are you thinking…” some might say, bewildered that I would find such enjoyment out of this bike setup. As backwards and pain inflicting as it seems to want to ride a single speed mountain bike, it really isn’t, my single speed has actually become one of my favorite bikes. Despite not having the benefit of granny gears and suspension, after a month of riding this way I honestly do not miss those perceived advantages. Today I did an 18 mile mountain bike ride and experienced no pain whatsoever afterwards. I chose Northshore Trail, located in Grapevine, Texas which is the hardest trail in my surrounding area. I wanted to see if a single speed bicycle could stack up to the most monstrous climbs and rock gardens that I could throw at it. Surprisingly, I did a lot less …

Pics And Recap Of The 6th Annual Black Friday Ride

Bike Friendly Richardson

For the 6th year, bike riders from all over the north Dallas area gathered for Bike Friendly Richardson‘s annual Black Friday Ride. Each year, to celebrate the anniversary of our bike group, we launch the holiday season with what matters the most: having a nice, casual ride around town. No pressure. No shopping malls. No discount stores. No long lines. No angry people. Just a bunch of folks, enjoying the fresh air and a beautiful day.
Today, over 20 people gathered in front of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Richardson. We took a slow, mostly flat, ride around some of the …

Black Friday Bike Ride in Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on November 28, 2014 by Rick AnkrumNovember 28, 2014

I was out running errands when I came upon a large group of bikers at Kingwood Drive and W. Lake Houston Parkway. It was around 9:30 AM and I have never seen a group this large in Kingwood. I stopped at a bank and they passed me going south on W. Lake Houston. Leaving the bank I drove south and caught up with them on the bridge over the San Jacinto River. There were enough of them that entire right lane was full for about 150 ft or more. One guy was behind them about 1/4 of a mile in front of a Ford pickup with flashing lights. After I passed them I pulled over in a shopping center and took these pictures. I think they were headed to the Bike Barn at FM1960.

Bicycle World co-owner to buy tract next to Cameron Park, maintain public access

By J.B. SMITH        www.wacotrib.com

A Waco businessman announced Wednesday that he will buy a 27-acre private tract next to Cameron Park and keep its trails open to the public.
Todd Behringer, whose Behringer Group LLC owns Bicycle World in downtown Waco, said he intends to close on the Weber tract in December.
“We are excited about the opportunity to purchase this unique, pictorial piece of Waco,” he said in a statement to the Tribune-Herald. “Being a cyclist, trail runner and …

Race Across Texas ride report

by  Peter Rajcani

Introduction
I have always enjoyed Spinistry gravel grinder events – from challenging Red River Riot to shorter fun rides like the
Northeast Texas trail ride or the Midnight Massacre night ride. Kevin Lee, the race promoter always puts on great
events with well-marked course, neutral support and great food afterwards. When I found out that he is
organizing a Race Across Texas during the first week of November, I was very excited. I always wanted to try a
multi-day stage race and the Race Across Texas (aka RAT) was the perfect opportunity. The race was divided into
8 segments/stages (about 100 miles each) for total of 880 miles of dirt, gravel and paved roads from Texarkana on
Texas/Arkansas state line to Tucumcari, NM. I signed up for the supported option in which Kevin would haul our
camping gear and food between stages since I did not want to carry all my gear on the bike. With the supported
option all I needed to take with me was food/water and gear that I usually carry on day rides; also the bike would …

Austin to Alaska for cancer research

By Deborah Martin        www.mysanantonio.com

O’Connor grad will lead one of three teams on part of 70-day ride

The Texas 4000 pitch — “Do you want to bike from Austin to Alaska?” — got Alexander Zwaan’s attention.
“I said, ‘That sounds crazy,’ but it got me interested,” said Zwaan, a native San Antonian currently studying international relations and global studies at the University of Texas at Austin.
He was intrigued enough to look into the program. And he liked the sound of it so …

Cycle-In Cinema, Edinburg’s First Try

by Ray Garza        rgvcycling.com

A few months ago a friend of mine posted an article on Facebook about San Antonio’s Cycle-In Cinema being a great success. After reading it, I thought to myself, “We can do that!”. It was a neat idea that could work here in the Rio Grande Valley. I’ve been to other outdoor movie venues in the Sharyland area and enjoyed watching the free movies outside. Those events were well attended so I knew it could work again but this time with a cycling element. I had visions of cycling power games before the movie to see who could generate the most power. Similar to the old carnival games of ringing the bell with that sledge-hammer. Or maybe charging the batteries on the generator and the movie won’t start until the batteries are topped off. Or just cycle to provide the power to the …

Featured Ride near Cypress, Houston area, Texas
“A very diverse, technical trail considering the terrain.”
— Scott Dammitt on Nov 25, 2014
Overview
The folks who have designed, built and maintained this trail over the years have taken careful consideration to include as much fun technical riding as possible, while also providing some fast flowy tracks, sometimes right next to each other. The trail sits on several blocks of forested land, and there are a multitude of places to enter the trail, so it can be confusing. Pay special attention …
