I find it inspiring and enjoyable to see other cyclists while I am out on a ride. I wondered if starting today’s bike ride at 8:27 AM might be too late to see other cyclists. I delayed the start to allow the fog to burn off. Aboard my Cervelo Caledonia I headed out intending to ride my typical route, Atascocita – Huffman – Walden, but as the ride moved along I changed to the Atascocita – Spanish Cove – Walden route. The routes include many of the same streets. Today’s route is slightly longer distance and I rode 35.22 miles compared to the 33 mile average for the other route.
No bike ride yesterday. The City of Houston showed up to repair the water line to my house and my neighbor. The work crew severed my internet service cable twice. I also waited for the refrigerator repair man to arrive. The repair man arrived, installed the part and then determined another part was needed. He couldn’t get the part before he went on vacation so I drove to a parts’ distributor, picked it up, and installed it. Then it started raining. So much for biking on Friday.
On today’s bike ride it wasn’t long before I saw the first cyclist. After that other cyclists crossed my ride going the opposite direction. No need to wonder if starting later meant not seeing them. All but one of them are in the video. Riding on the greenbelt trail beside Kingwood Drive by Kingwood High School a track meet was taking place. A group of boys ran on the greenbelt and the last one yelled “Texbiker, I watch your videos on YouTube.” Quite a surprise.
The break of hot weather continued this morning but the high humidity and dew point offered another challenge. My kit was soaked at the 11:09 AM finish. Weather: Start 74 degrees, 98% humidity, dew point 73.1, mostly cloudy, wind calm; Finish 84 degrees, 71% humidity, dew point 73.4, mostly cloudy, wind variable 5 mph.

But here’s how bike share in Houston could work
At Houston Bike Share, the nonprofit agency that runs the BCycle system, we’ve been working to find new funding for more than a year. We’ve made tough decisions, suspending stations and raising prices. And now, in the face of a major cash crunch, we plan to shut down the operation completely in the next two months.
This breaks our hearts.
As volunteer directors on the board, we have helped set the direction of bike share in Houston throughout much of the organization’s history. We’d like to share the back story on how we got to this point and offer thoughts on how bike share in Houston can get back on a roll.
Technology-enabled bike share allows users to pick up a bike in one place, ride …
An Arlington city ordinance change may clear the way for UT Arlington to launch a bike and scooter rental program that connects riders to campus and downtown.
The proposed revisions would soften a 2005 ordinance that outlaws motor-assisted scooters from city streets.
If passed, people would be able to drive personal or rented scooters between Fielder Road, Collins Street, Division Street and Park Row Drive. Some streets would not be included – for example, scooters and rental bicycles would not be allowed along South Cooper Street. Personal bikes would not be affected by the policy, nor would devices like motorized wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
The changes also include provisions for the city government to work with UTA officials …

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) – A bicyclist is seriously injured after a collision with a car in East El Paso Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews rushed the bicyclist to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Special Traffic Investigators are taking over the investigation.
Officials confirm that a single car and a bicycle were involved in the collision. This happened near the intersection of Saul Kleinfeld Drive and Firehouse Drive.
ABC-7 has a crew at the scene and we are working to learn more information.
Over $50M was spent along Buffalo Bayou Park just west of downtown Houston. And it’s fantastic. But replacing this skinny caged bridge should be on the short list. Any plans? @buffalobayou@houparksboardpic.twitter.com/zJZyeZD4EH
This bridge is Part of Pat Walsh Bikeway, fully expect this revamped for a world class connection between Woodhead and Patterson. It also happens to be in Precinct 1. So although it wouldn’t be eligible for Places4People, @hcpct1 should get their own version going pic.twitter.com/NktxWufsz2

2023 Texas CX Race Series | Standardized Bib Numbers
TXCX 2023 race series bib number sampleNew this season is the introduction of a standardized race number across all 2023 Texas CX race series events. This means you will use one race number for the entire season at all series events and select other Texas-area races. Once you have your race number and your own timing transponder, register for a race online and simply show up at the start line. No need to check-in at race registration each race day. The process is easy for you and easier for the race directors and their staff.

For Galaxy Bicycles owner Andy Howard, bike riding has always been a constant in his life.
“It’s just one of my life passions,” Howard said.
The full story
Howard opened The Hub Cyclery, a full-service bicycle shop, on the square in downtown San Marcos in 2008 while he was still an undergraduate student at Texas State University. In March 2020, the bike shop was renamed Galaxy Bicycles and relocated to 500 S. Guadalupe St.—right before the throes of COVID-19.
He decided to move for a number of reasons, which included parking and lack of running water. He also said test rides were “sketchy” with the amount of cars and beer trucks in the area.
"Parking was a real issue there the last few years, and my customers really struggled to access my …

I pushed the rain envelope on today’s bike ride. My first attempt to ride came just after 9 AM but ended before it began because of rain. While I waited for the rain to end and the streets to dry off some I watched the Coppa Sabatini in Italy and then stage 18 of the La Vuelta Ciclista a España. The rain stopped and the streets dried enough for my second attempt at 11:52 AM on my Canyon Endurace bike. I rode south and east planning on following my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route but subject to change if the rain reappeared. I ran into some rain drops and sprinkles but not enough to turn back. The first decision came at Atascocita shores Drive and FM 1960 before heading east over Lake Houston. Cars from the east approached with windshield wipers working. I waited a few minutes at the Chevron station until the wipers weren’t flipping back and forth. Riding out over the lake meant no place to get out of the rain. The sky looked okay but rain was possible. At Fairlake Lane I decided to turn right and go to FM 2100. No rain on the ride there. North on FM 2100 I biked towards clouds that looked wet but again no rain. Reaching FM 1960 I went west and then back over the lake without rain. Atascocita Shores Drive was okay until Sunny shores Drive when it started sprinkling. The first place to stop was on Kings River Drive at Kings Crown Estates at 27.8 miles. Moments after I took shelter it started raining. I stayed there for 1 hour and 16 minutes waiting for the rain to slow down. I left on the greenbelt trail going west under the trees hoping thy would keep some of the rain from getting to me. That kind of worked. As I rode west the rain stopped but the streets were wet. Looking north the sky was potentially wet but I made it home at 4:05 PM without rain.
Weather: Start 77 degrees, 96% humidity, dew point 76.1, overcast, wind SE 8 mph; stopped for rain 1:16; Finish 75 degrees, 97% humidity, dew point 74.4, light rain, wind E 9 mph.
