About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Nathan Aikele – Six Week Update

by Nicole Ortega        texasbikeracing.com

Nathan Aikele is scheduled to graduate from Podiatry Medical School on May 28th with his fellow colleagues despite a horrific bike crash that left him paralyzed from the nipples down. When the accident occurred, he had seven weeks of school left, and the incident left us all in shock.
The cyclist was working one of his clinical rotations in San Antonio and decided to drive down to participate in the Driveway Series criterium here in Austin on April 10th. Aikele recalls, “As soon as we hit the last lap, I took off pretty hard. I remember looking back a few times. Then I remember waking up in the ambulance and being in a lot of pain, but I passed out again.” He was in the lead and was projected…

by Nikki Henderson        www.arklatexhomepage.com

If you have a bike there are several things the Texarkana, Texas Police Dept, wants you to keep in mind before you hit the streets.
Here are five important laws all bicycle enthusiasts should know:
Riders must obey all traffic control devices such as stop signs and red lights.
Riders are required to use hand signals for stopping and turning and are required to ride the…

Ride Interview – Spindletop Spin 2014 – Beaumont, Tx

www.wheelbrothers.com

June is right around the corner, and so is another great ride! We were lucky to grab a quick interview with Cindy Torrans, to learn more about this awesome ride. If you are looking for an awesome ride for the weekend of June 7th, get your info here!
Why join your ride?
Approaching its ninth year, the impact of the Spindletop Spin continues to exceed our expectations. This cycling adventure is one of the most successful events in Southeast Texas.

How long has your ride been around?
The Spindletop Spin started spinning in 2006.
What was the motivation behind starting the ride and who benefits from it?
The Spindletop Spin is the annual fundraiser for the Jefferson County Bar Association Foundation which is charitable…

Rolling My Wheels On Gateway Park’s Mountain Bike Trails Before Getting Ribbed At Town Talk

Durango Texas

Today I was back rolling my bike’s wheels again. This time at Gateway Park.
Yesterday when I blogged about Fun Town in the River Legacy Park’s mountain bike trail maze I mentioned the first steep drop-off one comes to whilst pedaling the Gateway Park trails.
That would be the aforementioned steep drop-off my handlebars are pointing at in the picture.
Why is it a photo of something steep never looks steep when it is a photo I have taken?
When one zips down this particular drop-off ones speed rapidly accelerates. I saw a guy have a…

Hikers, bikers and walkers filled Midland maps with colorful suggestions during a master planning session Monday night at Midland College.
The city aims to increase interconnectivity and mobility between neighborhoods by identifying key recreational corridors with its first Trails Master Plan.
About 25 residents and community leaders attended Monday’s session, placing stickers on amenities they liked and marking giant maps with suggestions for hike and bike routes and facilities.
Midland currently has one mile of trail for every 5,675 people, according to James Carrillo, vice president and…

How Do I Know I’m Improving?

Bike Noob

When I started cycling about six years ago, I was gratified by how quickly I seemed to improve. I built up the number of miles I could ride, I lost a little weight, I recovered from strenuous efforts faster.
But after several years of riding, I fell into a rut.
My long rides weren’t very long — it was rare that I roe for more than 40 miles. I found there was no way I could hang with the A riders in my club, and I was starting…

2014 Warda Race Report

Turnin’ Cranks

The Warda Race at Bluff Creek Ranch in Warda, Texas is the finale in the Texas State Championship series. This particular course is pretty flat and wide open. An all out hammerfest with only minor technical features. Not a course that plays to my strengths.
But it was still a chance to get out and ride my bike with some good and fast competition thrown in. With this being the finale, I had crunched the numbers and knew what I needed to do to defend my 4th place overall in the state series.
There was only one person I had to watch out for. Michael Adams would be bagging his 5th race of the season at Warda and thus, all of his points would count. Michael is a fast rider and I…

June 8 Gateway Park Fort Worth Fat Tire Festival Celebrating All Things Mountain Bike For $15

Durango Texas

A couple weeks ago I saw a flyer on the information sign at the Gateway Park Fort Worth Mountain Bike Association trail’s trail head announcing the June 8th 4th Annual FAT Tire Festival.
This was the first I’d heard of this festival, even though there have been three previous.
I don’t think I’ve ever been to a mountain bike festival of any sort, so I thought maybe I…

I Bike Richardson – Marianne Rogers

Bike Friendly Richardson

It’s time for another installment of the I Bike Richardson series, where we put a face on Richardson cyclists. We’d like to introduce Marianne Rogers. She took the time to answer a few questions about biking. Enjoy:
Name: Marianne Rogers
How long have you been riding?
I have ridden most of my life. We scaled it back when we had kids until they were old enough to join us!
How often do you ride?
I ride most days. I commute to work (from Plano to Richardson) 2 – 3 days per week, run errands on my bike, do dirt riding on occasion and…

Austin B-Cycle adding new stations

Four months after it opened, Austin B-Cycle is adding new stations and enlarging existing ones due to high usage.
