About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Oatmeal Cookies – August 27th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 27, 2013 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 31, 2017

After two days off the bike I got to ride again. Sunday we spent driving back from Wichita Falls and yesterday we got some badly needed rain. After the Hotter’N Hell 100 sometimes I have a let down but I haven’t noticed it this year. Maybe since I finished the ride with energy left and the drive back home was okay except for missing the turn on US287 in Fort Worth I did not experience a let down.

The remodeling continued today at our house so my ride was delayed until my wife got home from working at church. I rolled out the driveway at 2:24 and returned at 5:07. I rode to Huffman on my usual route going north on E. Lake Houston Parkway so I could stop at Dollar General on FM2100 for some oatmeal cookies. When we were in Wichita Falls there was a Dollar General store across the parking lot from our hotel. Saturday evening before eating supper we browsed the store and I noticed a 7 oz. package of oatmeal cookies for $1. I like oatmeal cookies so I thought I would sample them during today’s ride. They were okay but not as good as the Kashi oatmeal cookies; I will stay with the Kashi cookies. Stopping at the Huffman Chevron I ate half of the cookies with a Diet Pepsi.

I biked 32.64 miles today at a 15.4 mph average speed. This puts me within .o4 of mile of the 721 mile goal for the month at 720.96 miles. Year to date totals 4972 miles.

After yesterday’s rain the sky turned to scattered clouds and the temperature during the ride was 92 to 93 degrees. The humidity was not that bad at 42%. usually after rain it shoots up. The heat intensity is lower than last week but it should move up as the week progresses.

Tomorrow’s forecast: 97 degrees, 20% chance of thunderstorms. I plan on biking after watching the Vuelta a Espana.

Texas Bicycling Daily News Roundup for August 26th

Texbiker.net Posted on August 26, 2013 by Rick AnkrumAugust 26, 2013

Post your HH Hundred experiences for 2013
by bjtesch        www.bikeforums.net
The ride seemed to run very well. The weather was hot but not as hot as it could have been, I think the official high was about 93F. Today’s newspaper reported 11,200 riders. There were 2 crashes on the course in the first 13 miles, I haven’t seen that before. I seemed to see more people standing on the course than before, hopefully they didn’t cause any other crashes. The finish line village was great again this year.
I trained more this year than last year but I find that the older I get the longer it takes for me to…
