Nothing wrong riding my mountain bike but today I had to ride my road bike. I enjoy going further faster. The ride started at 1:47 PM and my route went south through Walden before heading over to Huffman. The clear blue sky was a relief after yesterday’s rain. My weather station showed 69 when I started and moved up to 71 by the time I finished at 3:59. To tell the truth it did not feel that warm outside. The 10 mph east wind cut through my windbreaker every time I rode through some shade or into the wind. Fortunately my choice of clothing was right: shorts, leg warmers, short sleeve and long sleeve jerseys with the windbreaker jacket.
This route was 30.31 miles long and I did manage to average 15.0 mph. Today was the ninth riding day for February. My month to date miles total 212.45 so I have 157 to ride to get to my 369 mile goal. With 9 days to go this is doable if the weather will cooperate a little. This week looks iffy with 50% rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday look promising though with clear skies and 68 degrees.
While I rode east on Old Atascocita Road I looked up to see another riding going west past me. That was the only other bicyclist to cross my path today. My last ride was on February 15th.

Bike Lending Library

The cost of an initial bike is the major expense that must be covered before someone can even try out bike racing and, in many cases, can be a limiting factor for families wanting to introduce someone to the sport. It may be more effective to loan, track, and help maintain bikes rather than just giving bicycles away. When a bicycle is given to a youth rider either through donation or sponsorship it can be difficult when it comes to being able to ensure the bicycle is being utilized and maintained. Without a continuing relationship with both…

Bikers battle wind in annual Jalapeño 100 ride
Allen Essex | Valley Morning Star
About 600 cyclists from ages 10 though 86 took on personal challenges in the 23rd annual Jalapeño 100 on Saturday. Starting at the Oil Mill Pavilion in Harlingen, they had a choice of five routes: 12 miles, 25 miles, 50 miles, 62.5 miles or 100 miles, the longest to South Padre Island and back. …
HARLINGEN — Carol and Andy Ranando of Cochecton, N.Y., are experienced bicyclists, but their participation in Saturday’s Jalapeño 100 showed more than a little spunk.
“We only did 12 miles. But two weeks ago, Carol had a…

Winds looked icky – SE 21 gusting to 26mph. (Typical N.Texas in February) 😕
For a while it looked like there wasn’t going to be a ride.
It was just me and JimW in the LMRA parking lot talking ourselves out of…
