About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

If you made a commitment to become healthier in 2013, or you just want to get out there and be more active, we’ve made a list of of places in Central Texas to help you to achieve these goals while enjoying the out-of-doors, and supporting local business.

Feature: Neoteric Racing Club
by WB admin            The Wheel Brothers – Cycling in Texas

Today’s featured cycling club is more than just a cycling team. Sure, they ride for the love of the sport but they also ride for a cause; a cause that they are extremely passionate about- fighting cancer! One race, one revolution at a time, the Neoteric Racing team is not giving up. Each member of the club has been touched by the big bad C word and now they are using their passion for riding as a catalyst to fight back. The founder and president of the team, Gary Mc Alea, was kind enough to talk to us more about his inspiring club. Get ready to be motivated because by the end you’ll want to join forces with this amazing team and their new cancer fighting initiative EXTERMINATE CANCER to kick some serious cancer butt!!

1.     Who founded the club and how did it come to life?

After losing his mother to cancer, founder Gary Mc Alea was motivated to do everything possible to Exterminate Cancer. He ran Team Dell, the largest cancer charity team participating in the annual…

Everything is bigger at Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest
Submitted by AdamNewman        www.dirtragmag.com

The 2013 Chihuahuan Desert Bike Fest is back in Lajitas, Texas, February 14-16. After 2012 treated festival-goers to a rare lightning show above the desert, who knows what kind of fireworks will be in store this time.

The festival will be hosted by the Maverick Ranch RV Park in Lajitas with access to the trails owned by the Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa and Big Bend Ranch State Park.

The Specialized demo crew will be on hand, as will Folkadelic, the same great tunes as last year.

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for January 14th

Texbiker.net Posted on January 14, 2013 by Rick AnkrumJanuary 14, 2013

All Level Ride @ Walnut Creek Fall/Winter hours
The Austin Mountain Bikers Meetup Group
Sunday, January 20, 2013    1:30 PM
Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park
12138 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX (map)
We set up under the trees in the parking lot near the swimming pool. Look for the ARR Banner.
Cooler weather hours are in effect starting on December 2nd!!

It has been a little bit chilly in the mornings so it is time to change the start time of our ride to 1:30 p.m. Look for a change back to mornings sometime around March 10, 2013.

We know that this time change doesn’t work for everyone so we hope you considering hosting a ride for yourself and those who might want to ride at a different time or on a different day.

You do NOT have to be a ARR member to attend most club riders. You will need to sign a waiver and wear a helmets when riding.

This is for all levels of riders, which will break into groups according to ability. Beginners are welcome, and there will be no drops. Meet in the parking lot by the swimming pool. The route will make it easy for…

HBC Chappell Hill Ride
Houston Bicycle Club
Saturday 01/26/13        9:00am
Distances: 35(B), 46(C), 55(C) miles
One of the prettier rides for wildflowers in the spring, it’s also a very nice fall ride. The short route heads north on FM 1155 for about 7.5 miles to the stop sign at FM 2193 then heads east on FM 1155 another 12 miles to Washington on the Brazos State Park.  There are bathroom facilities and water/soft drinks available at the park. Watch that one big hill just a few miles north of Chappell Hill on FM 1155. It’s not called “Chappell Hill” for nothing. Eat outside at Bever’s after the ride (corner of Providence and FM 1155), one block from the start. …

What was your club up to over the past year?
A LOT!
Here is just a snapshot of what your club has been up to over the past 12 months.

Join us, if you haven’t already – and get involved.

Yes, there are always the mundane things we do that demonstrate the real “good” being done on our weekly rides. The waivers we initiated in January gave us a little taste of this. We required all non-members to sign a release with each ride. This provided a little boost to our membership numbers, with a small group joining just so they wouldn’t have to sign every ride (welcome to you!). But the main thing it did was to provide protection for our club, our board and you as members. We thank everyone for…
