About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

I shutter to think that distracted driving is now moving to the bicycle.

iGrip: Slap that phone on your bike handle and email on the go
A German gadget maker is at CES 2013, aiming to land U.S. retail partners to sell holders for phones and tablets. It showed its products at CES Unveiled.
by Paul Sloan            ces.cnet.com

LAS VEGAS — The Consumer Electronics show never has a shortage of accessory companies aiming to serve the growing number of devices we all carry — and CES 2013 looks like it’ll be no exception. Most are easy to ignore. iGrip, made by the German company Herbert Richter, however, stands out, particularly because the mounts are…

Sign Petition to Support Complete Streets
BikeHouston
BikeHouston asks members and friends to support adoption of Complete Streets design by all governments in the Houston area.

The people of the Houston region travel by many different modes for many different purposes, including walking, biking, automobiles, transit, and freight. All streets should be designed with the safety and ease of travel of all users in mind. This has not been done in many cases across the Houston region, but we can no longer suffer deficient infrastructure. All local governments…

Sitting In with Super Squadra
by djcurtin                    Bicycle Sport Shop’s Offical Cycling Blog

With the buzz surrounding our new Cycling Clubs, it might be easy to overlook one of our biggest assets in terms of folks flying the Bicycle Sport Shop flag: Super Squadra, our elite men’s road team. The guys had another solid season in 2012. While there were plenty of changes for team members this past year, they found new ways to win. We sat down with the guys and looked back at 2012, and forward to the 2013 season a bit.

In general terms, how was the season?
Ian Dille: The 2012 season was a successful year, and a transitional year. Prior to the start of the season, we created the Super JETS (Super Junior Espoir Team Squadra)—who brought a lot of youthful enthusiasm to the team, and a whole lot of speed. We’ve always had developmental riders within the…

CHeWing ThE PHat: Tire Boot!
by Shawn                Texas Mountain Bike Trails
I heard the rock resonate off the front tire and a loud rubber-ish crunch followed, slime and air leaving the front tube at a rapid rate.

It’s only flat on the bottom, right?

I’ve only ripped a couple of tires while off-road riding in my life and without a fix it’s going to be a long walk or run out of the woods.  The last catastrophic tear happened during an endurance race that left me running the bike until a good hearted soul gave a “tire boot.”  With…
