About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

With missing link in place, Violet Crown now offers 11 miles of uninterrupted trail

By Nathan Bernier | www.kut.org

A mile-long missing link in the Violet Crown Trail is now complete and open to the public. This new segment in Sunset Valley guides trailblazers from the end of Home Depot Boulevard, through a wooded area, under MoPac, and up to the Garza Ranch development close to the Arbor Trails Shopping Center.

With this new link in place, the 11-mile trail now runs unbroken from Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park to Slaughter Creek near MoPac. And by the end of 2024, another segment is planned to reach 1.7 miles farther from Slaughter Creek to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Like a summer Thursday Boerne, Texas

Brent Wells | strava.com

Just needed an easy ride this evening to spin out my legs. It was also probably the last ride I’ll do from “my shop” as I start a new job on Monday. Of course, it was kind of emotional for me because before my crash, I used to always ride from #MyShop. After the crash however, when I finally started riding again thanks to The Snakedoctor, Jeff Skokan, I never left from #MyShop. When I finally dared to do it again, I would often get lost at various points… Often in the labyrinth of Fair Oaks Ranch. Like I always do, though, I kept at it until I had it down. I’m sure this is just a transitional phase, and once I get my new job down, I will have a new route and pattern. As always, I think, my Lord and Savior, a Jesus, Christ, for saving me both physically and spiritually, for allowing me to return to this sport, that I love, and for another safe ride with out any mechanicals or flats.?

Triple Saddle Switch. Presta Valve Core Issue. Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman

Texbiker.net Posted on July 27, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJuly 27, 2023

Yesterday evening I decided to perform a triple saddle switch for some reason. I think it centered around moving the Cervelo Road saddle from my Canyon Endurace to the Cervelo Caledonia but this meant switching the saddle on the Lynskey Helix bike as well. Now the Cervelo Caledonia has it’s original saddle, the Canyon Endurace the Velo Senso TT+ saddle and the Lynskey Helix the Fizik saddle. Whew!

The bike for today’s ride was my Cervelo Caledonia. As I was getting ready to walk out and start the ride I squeezed the tires and they felt a little soft so I took time to air them up. The front tire has a removable Presta valve core and as I removed the pump chuck it unscrewed letting some of the air I just put in out. I tightened the valve core and aired up the tire again and this time no problem removing the pump chuck. No problem airing the rear tire. All of this delayed the ride start a few minutes moving away at 8:49 AM.

Earlier this morning I checked SportTracks to see when I last rode the Atascocita South – Walden – Huffman route and learned it was June 22nd on my Canyon Endurace bike. That was the route today. I didn’t ride the exact same streets changing the first 8/10’s of a mile to mostly greenbelt trail but after that it was mostly the same. Nothing out of the ordinary during the ride. My legs were slower than yesterday and it took awhile to get my overall average speed above 13 mph.

Hot weather continued but the air had a cooling effect rather than making it feel hotter. Maybe the combination of humidity and dew point contributed to that but it felt good. Weather conditions: Start 86 degrees, 75% humidity, dew point 76.9, partly cloudy, wind calm; Finish 92 degrees, 52% humidity, dew point 71.5, partly cloudy, wind SE 6 mph. I finished at 11:50 AM.

What’s the latest on the 100-mile trail connecting Austin to San Antonio?

by: Kelsey Thompson | www.kxan.com

CENTRAL TEXAS (KXAN) — It’s no surprise Central Texans love their outdoor recreation spaces. In just several years’ time, residents and visitors will be able to take a jaunt between Austin and San Antonio, sans vehicles. What is the Great Springs Project?

The Great Springs Project is a local nonprofit that launched its endeavors more than two years ago. Under its plan, the organization will create a 100-mile trail system by 2036 that will link the two cities together, along with four springs: Barton, Comal, San Marcos and San Antonio springs. …

Initiated a few early moves but nothing stuck. A break of 5 went up the road in the last 20 minutes and they eventually got out of sight. The field seemed to be content on sprinting for 6th but I definitely wasn’t. Once we crossed two to go, I went for broke and was either going to catch them or blow the doors off trying. Latched on with half a lap to go and barely survived a few elbows and potholes in route to a solid 2nd place for this gravel boy ?

Serenity in the Saddle: Tales of the Canyon Bike

Texbiker.net Posted on July 26, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJuly 27, 2023

North to Tavola and back comprised today’s bike ride. 12 days ago was the previous ride on my New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch route. With my July goal in hand today’s miles got me closer to 900 for the month (839.2 miles now). For the second ride in a row I used my Canyon Endurace bike wheels down at 8:47 AM finishing at 11:52 AM at 36.5 miles. The week’s miles now is 117.23. No cyclist spotted during the ride, those usually happen when I ride south and east. The dew point was lower and the air felt cool as I rode, a pleasant feeling. The Canyon bike now has 802 miles. It rides so smooth. This was the 7th ride on the route in 2023 and today’s miles was the average distance. I’ve used 3 different bikes this year: Cervelo 4 rides, Canyon 2 rides, and Lynskey 1 ride. I reclaimed the Strava Local Legend on Trikelly.
