About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Places to Ride: Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Texbiker.net Posted on June 24, 2012 by bobdoleJune 24, 2012
Article category:
General

Places to Ride:  Palo Duro Canyon State Park

When the kids are out of school and the high temperatures in Houston can melt the grips off your handlebars, we frequently head to the mountains in the west.  In doing so, many of us go within 30 miles of Palo Duro Canyon State Park, the second largest canyon system in the United States.  At the bottom of the canyon exists 12 miles of singletrack in some of the best scenery found in Texas.
Sure, it will be hot but if you overnight there on your way you should be able to get an early or late ride in to duck the worst of it.  Be wary of simply parking at the top of the canyon and riding down if you get there before the park opens for the day during the summer.  The climb out will be hot and steep.  Do not bother detouring off our route to ride here if it has rained recently as the clay in the soil will make riding slippery and probably bike damaging.  Enjoy.

The Facts:

  • Hours: change throughout the year but earliest opening is 8am
  • Entry Fee:  $5 / person
  • Camping:  tent and cabin available – reservations may be made through Texas State Parks at 512-389-8900
  • Miles of Trails:  12

Grant money to ‘string beads’ of city’s bike paths
Houston Chronicle Copyright 2012 Houston Chronicle. All rights reserved.
A peloton of politicians gathered near that terminus Friday afternoon to celebrate an election year bring-home-the-bacon $15 million federal grant that will pay for six projects to link Houston’s fragmented patchwork of bike paths into something more closely resembling a network. Once the 18 miles of off-street paths, widened sidewalks and roadway bike lanes are completed, pedestrians and cyclists will be able to move from Little York and Antoine in far northwest Houston to Brady’s Landing along Buffalo Bayou east of downtown without ever…

Just Moved to Houston from CA – help me find a trail please
by robbybird        forums.mtbr.com
Hi All,
I just moved to Houston from the SF Bay Area and I am used to really great trails from every angle. I am mostly a XC rider, but used to lots of climbing and nice technical challenges. I have two custom bikes – a SS, rigid 29er and hard tail 29er. I am a very experienced rider/racer.

Where should I go around here? I live in Northside Village (off either 45 or 59). I don’t mind a 45-60 min drive. I have seen list of places on the forums here, but I am not sure which one will be the best for me to start with. …
