Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

22nd Annual Bike MS: Valero 2011 Alamo Ride to the River

Brief Description

An estimated 2,000 cyclists seeking a world free of multiple sclerosis will journey Oct. 15 – 16 in the Bike MS: Valero Alamo Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B, supporting the National MS Society.
The Valero 2011 Alamo Ride to the River, presented by H-E-B will kick off a weekend celebration on wheels with an Expo on Friday, October 14 in San Antonio. The Expo is the final opportunity for participants to pick up their rider packet and will feature the 3rd Annual Team Jersey Fashion Show, event sponsors and the latest cycling products sold by Official Bike MS bike shops.

Ride:
Let the ride begin. Saturday, October 15 participants will begin their journey at the AT&T Center, Home of the NBA Championship Spurs. Led by the Velo Valero team and the Top 10 Fundraising Teams, cyclists will embark on a two-day journey to support 20,000 Texans living with MS. Cyclists will enjoy a clearly marked and well-planned route, fully-stocked rest stops every 10-12 miles, wonderful meals, bike mechanics, medical staff, police support, SAG (Support & Gear), massage therapists, a custom Ride T-shirt, finish pins, the best volunteers, camaraderie and much more!

Overnight:
Join the celebration and enjoy entertainment, food and fun at the Comal County Fair Grounds, the Official Home of the Bike MS Valero Overnight. Ask your team captain if they have their tent reserved for the San Antonio Express-News Team Tent Village. Don’t miss out on the fun!

On Sunday, October 16 enjoy a hot breakfast sponsored by Tesoro to gear up for the 60-mile ride back to the AT&T Center. The finish line celebration will include music, a terrific finish line meal, massage therapists, showers and more!

Day 1: 47.6-mile Arby’s Lunch Express, 70-mile, 100-mile Pfizer River Road Challenge
Day 2: 57.7-mile

Team LIVESTRONG Challenge – Austin, TX

Team LIVESTRONG Challenge Austin

In conjunction with our Ride for the Roses Weekend, this event is the grand finale of our Series. Cyclists can choose from distances ranging from 20-90 miles. At the finish line, each cancer survivor is celebrated with a yellow rose. Afterwards participants and spectators are invited to join us at the Post-Event Party.

$45: January 1, 2011–May 31, 2011
$50: June 1, 2011–October 16, 2011

*Virtual participants can register for free at any time.
**The registration fee to participate in the 5K is $35
***The registration fee to participate in the 5K and the ride is $75.

Our final event of the Series is held in conjunction with the Ride for the Roses weekend. On Saturday, October 15 enjoy a 5K run/walk through downtown Austin, including a tour along Austin’s eclectic South Congress Avenue. Then on Sunday, October 16, join us at Roger Hanks Pkwy to see the best of the Texas Hill Country with one of our multi-distance bike rides including a 20-, 45-, 65- or 90-mile options. Our post-event party is a great way to celebrate all the miles put in training, all the hard work put into fundraising and the end to another great Series.
