About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Great Springs Project’s trail network between San Antonio and Austin continues to grow

By Jack Morgan | www.texasstandard.org

A 102-acre purchase adds another link to the endeavor that will connect both cities by 2036. The Great Springs Project aims to someday create a whole new route between San Antonio and Austin, without driving a mile on I-35. And it’s not for people in a rush, either.

That’s because those traveling this route won’t be driving a car. They’ll be riding a bike, or walking.

The Great Springs Project’s Emma Lindrose-Siegel explained that it “is a nonprofit organization incorporated in Texas with a two-fold mission. The first is to build a hike and bike trail connecting the four great springs of Central Texas from the Alamo to the Capitol.” …

Fitness Returning, Extended Ride North To Caney Creek

Texbiker.net Posted on August 5, 2024 by Rick AnkrumAugust 5, 2024

Distractions abound to delay starting a bike ride. This morning I messed around with a new computer and didn’t start the ride as early as I planned. Rather than starting before 9 AM the ride began at 9:44 AM. I chose a northerly route taking me farther north than I’ve rode since July 7th, Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood. The route averages about 33 miles and I covered 32.4 miles. To reach my goal for the month I need to ride 29.2 miles every day. I am behind that pace now but hope to make up the deficit a little each day. Once I left Kingwood I didn’t see much debris from the hurricane but I did see several trucks hauling debris. I limited my max gears to the 35×15 on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike as I rebuild my fitness. No neck or shoulder muscle pain today so I’m making progress. I finished at 12:28 PM before the heat maxed out. Several days this week could hit 100+.

Local detention facility implements staff bikes

Emily Banks Wooten | www.easttexasnews.com

The implementation of staff bikes earlier this spring for its 2024 wellness initiative is the perfect example of a workplace not just talking the talk, but also walking the walk.

Management and Training Corporation (MTC) is the private contractor that manages IAH Secure Adult Detention Center, the immigration detention facility located on FM 350 South in Livingston. The facility’s motto is the acronym BIONIC, which stands for “Believe It Or Not, I Care.”

“The BIONIC blue and white bikes represent an encouragement for striving toward a healthy, happy lifestyle. The blue stands for our …

The Trailist: Boerne has a small but growing network of paved trails

by Brendan Gibbons | sanantonioreport.org

Last week, while housesitting for my wife’s friends who live near Helotes, I thought I’d make a quick trip up Interstate 10 to Boerne to check out the city’s small network of public trails.

The fast-growing town, with a population that’s expected to spike 24% between 2021 and 2026, now has three distinct pathways — the 1.75-mile Cibolo Creek Trail, the 1.4-mile Old No. 9 Trail and the 0.5-mile Currey Trail. This doesn’t include the six miles of trails at the …

Modest Effort Biking Around Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on August 4, 2024 by Rick AnkrumAugust 4, 2024

Ending the week with a modest effort bike ride around Kingwood streets. I didn’t have a specific route in mind when I started changing as I rode my Lynskey Helix bike. The 15.6 miles today was good compared to not riding last Sunday. Keep my legs turning. I rolled out at 12:16 PM under plenty of sunshine and 88 degrees. Dressed in a dark kit the heat didn’t take long to warm me up. Ended the week with 140.21 miles and 81.46 miles towards my 904 mile goal for August. Finished at 1:36 PM before it got really hot. I was on the bike Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and today.
