About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Surprising Early Start, Visited My Cervelo, Atascocita-Huffman-Walden Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 17, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJune 17, 2023

Surprisingly early start to the bike ride rolling away on my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike at 7:51 AM. I wanted to leave early to beat the heat and potentially see other cyclists on the route. It was the Atascocita – Huffman – Walden route for the 6th time in 2023. I saw the first cyclist on Atascocita Shores Drive on the way to FM 1960. Others followed east of Lake Houston and on the way back to Kingwood. I made a brief stop at Kingwood Bicycles to visit my Cervelo Caledonia on the way back. Today’s 34.27 miles equals the average for the 2023 rides. My week now totals 223.71 miles and June is at 550.62. Finished the ride at 10:34 AM. Sometimes i don’t start bike rides that early.

When biking Cibolo Creek trail, worry and strife fall away

Brandon Lingle | www.expressnews.com

UNIVERSAL CITY — The world’s stress and strife fade when my bike tires hit Cibolo Creek trail dirt.

Worries don’t follow me down the hill and into the ravine that weaves from Veterans Park near FM 78 to Universal City Park about a mile away. It’s a quick ride from my house to this narrow strip of wilderness. I consider it my home turf.

A tinge of localism made me hesitate to reveal my go-to spot, but writing about it might be a way to help preserve and perhaps enlarge it.

Since the COVID pandemic, I’ve spent hundreds of hours riding the …

Canyon Endurace CF 7 First Ride On Spring Creek Greenway

Texbiker.net Posted on June 16, 2023 by Rick AnkrumJune 16, 2023

The last time I rode on the Spring Creek Greenway was May 3rd and today was time to ride there again. I began the ride at 8:50 AM delayed a few minutes to air up the tires on my Canyon Endurace CF7 bike. Early this morning while checking Twitter I learned that Gino Mader died from a crash yesterday at the Tour de Suisse and I offer prayers to his family, team mates at Bahrain Victorius, and friends.

My plan was to ride to John Pundt Park with a side trip on Treschwig Road at the Carter Park trailhead and Spring Creek Drive at John Pundt Park. These added over a mile to the total miles. Previously the average distance has been 43 miles. Today I biked 42.95 miles. This week’s biking totals 189.45 miles setting up a 200+ mile week on tomorrow’s bike ride.

I saw other cyclists on the greenway, some are in the video. The shade helped to offset the temperature. I stopped at John Pundt Park for a short break and again after the up hill climb on the bridge leaving Jesse Jones parking lot. The breeze felt good and I forced myself to get back on the bike to finish the bike ride. On the way back to Kingwood I rode the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway.

Weather during the ride: Start 85 degrees, 79% humidity, dew point 77.6, mostly cloudy with haze, wind E 8 mph; Finish 94 degrees, 62% humidity, dew point 79.1, partly cloudy, wind S 14 mph gusts 24 mph.

These first two photos are on the Bevill Jerald Bridge on the way to the trailhead. The third photo was at John Pundt Park where I stopped for a break.

Report: Galleria-area police chase may have contributed to cyclist’s death

The deadly crash on Westheimer is raising questions about how police chases occur.

A Houston police chase through the Galleria area early Tuesday morning may have contributed to a secondary accident in which a cyclist was hit and killed by a distracted driver.

According to ABC13, Harris County Constable Pct. 1 was able to use data from a GPS tracker and images from a neighbor’s security camera to track the alleged thief to an apartment complex in …
